Shedeur Sanders did not have the best of games against Nebraska, but it could have been worse. The Colorado Buffaloes quarterback received a massive hit during the game that left him shaken to the core.

The Huskers took a 28-0 lead in the first half, leaving Travis Hunter frustrated on the sidelines. It was more of the same in the third quarter until a three-point conversion from Buffs kicker Alejandro Mata.

Nothing much happened until with little over 9 minutes left on the clock in the fourth quarter on 1st & 10, Sanders for once broke free from the pocket, missing a couple of Nebraska players to gain some ground. However, as the Huskers’ middle line charged in, Sanders slid to avoid contact, which turned out to be fatal.

Nebraska linebacker Mikai Gbayor smashed into Shedeur’s helmet, leaving him motionless for a short while. He eventually got up but looked shaky.

Sanders went down on his knee as his teammates and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders surrounded him. The referees, meanwhile, were checking to see if Gbayor’s challenge on Sanders was a fair one.

After an extensive consultation, the officials concluded that Gbayor’s headbutt on Sanders was unsportsmanlike conduct. They decided to eject the pass rusher from the game.

Colorado did score one touchdown through wide receiver LaJohntay Wester a minute later, making the score 28-10. Sanders did not finish the game as coach Prime took him off and sent backup Ryan Staub for the final couple of snaps.

Shedeur Sanders ended the day with 23/38 for 244 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 pick-6 to defensive back Tommi Hill. Sanders was sacked more than five times, which cost him -30 yards. Travis Hunter kept up his great form with 10 catches for 110 yards (11.0 yards per carry).

As for Nebraska, quarterback Dylan Raiola played safe with 23 completions for 185 yards and 1 passing touchdown. He contributed to the run game more, helping Oregon transfer Dante Dowdell with 2 rushing touchdowns (12 yards and 1 yard), who carried the ball 17 times for 74 yards.

The Buffaloes won the reverse fixture last year, but the Huskers dominated against them this time around. Up next, Nebraska will face the minnows from Northern Iowa while Colorado travels to the Sonny Lubick Field and faces in-state rivals the Colorado State Rams in week 3.
