Shedeur Sander was fortunate to survive without lingering knee damage from the Kansas game the Colorado Buffaloes lost last week. The challenge was so bad that social media wanted action against the Jayhawks player for targeting.

FOX Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt branded the tackle as the ‘cheapest shot’ he had ever seen. From his point of view, Sanders’ quick thinking of planting his feet saved him from a possible career-ending injury.

During Tuesday’s episode of the ‘2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders‘ podcast, the 22-year-old spoke about the moment the tackle took place. According to Sanders, he was zoned in on the pass instead of paying attention to the defender.

Honestly, it’s just, did I complete the pass? That’s honestly what it was. I didn’t hear our crowd that was there cheer, so I realized it was an incomplete pass. Then, after that, the lineman and everybody helped me off the ground, and that’s really it.

Shedeur Sanders said.

Midway through the game against Kansas, Sanders tried to scramble and then looked for wide receiver Will Sheperd in the center field to secure the first down for Colorado. However, Kansas defensive end Dean Miller charged into Sanders’ knees.

Sanders kept his footing and completed the pass to Shepherd. The impact of the tackle forced him to the ground, but he quickly got back up and resumed play.

Shedeur Sanders’ advice on avoiding knee injuries

Sanders completed 23 passes from 29 for 266 yards (144.66 quarterback rating) and three touchdowns. It wasn’t enough for the Buffaloes to lose their third game of the season.

Sanders did not show any signs of pain during and after the game, earning praise for his durability. The former Jackson State player shared his method of protecting the knees from serious injuries.

An important piece of quarterbacking is to always keep your knees bent. That’s the advice I always give to anybody playing a position… I never keep my legs locked out because that’s when you have those knee injuries and all those types of stuff…I feel like that all helped me in that moment.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders revealed Kansas coach and Miller reached out to him.

I know how it looked. I know how it seemed, but the guys were trying to make a play. He’s playing ball. But they will communicate with one another.

Deion Sanders said.

The Buffaloes are close to playing post-season football. They already bagged a Bowl game, and beating the Oklahoma Cowboys on the final day may even hand them an opportunity to play for the BIG 12 Championship game.
