There’s still ample time before the 2025 NFL draft, but it doesn’t hurt to discuss it—especially when one of the hottest prospects, Shedeur Sanders, is in the mix. Before the start of the college football season, many viewed him as a first-round pick, but only eight games in, that perception changed drastically.
Players like Qwinn Ewers and Carson Beck were the favorites as the first two quarterbacks off the board. However, the recent draft projections suggest that it’s a two-horse race between Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward.
Shedeur almost declared for the 2024 draft, but his father and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders stopped him. Coach Sanders wanted Shedeur to wait for one more year and raise his draft stock, which he has.
Shedeur constantly ranks among the best in almost every quarterback category. It makes sense for the 22-year-old to try his luck for the big league, and he finally announced his intentions. A recent video from Colorado’s facility showed one of the coaches before practice reminding the players to register for classes at 8:30 AM. Shedeur Sanders replied, with a smile.“Man, I’m going to the league.”
In the video, one of his teammates joked about him returning for another. Sanders quickly corrected him.

Which NFL teams are favorites to draft Shedeur Sanders?
Shedeur Sanders fits several quarterback-needy NFL teams. The frontrunner for his landing spot is the Las Vegas Raiders. The teams want to escape from the rebuild phase they are in and finally go toe to toe with the Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers.
Owner Mark Davis appointed new general manager Tom Telesco and head coach Antonio Pierce, and recently seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady joined the board as a minority owner. If they play their cards correctly, then Sanders should fall on their laps.

The Raiders will find steep competition from the Saints and the Browns, who also want a new quarterback. However, Coach Prime will pull an Eli and back out of sending his son to a franchise with very little option for Shedeur to grow as a quarterback in the league.
Prime recently named a franchise that he thinks is a good fit for Shedeur. In an interview, he mentioned the Dolphins (8th overall pick) when quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was on concussion protocol and many predicted he might retire. Tua rejoined the team and started the last two games (lost both).
Another team that desperately wants a new quarterback is the New York Giants. Daniel Jones’ tortured time in the Big Apple might come to an end after this season. The Giants wanted a quarterback in 2023 but decided to give Jones another year by adding players around him, but after nine weeks they are 2-7 and are on a four-game losing streak.
Unlike the Browns or the Saints, the Giants have a much better offensive line and cornerback core. The Yorkers just need a good quarterback who can handle the pressure. All eyes are now on April 24.
