It has only been a month since Shedeur Sanders joined the Cleveland Browns after they drafted him in the fifth round of the NFL Draft 2025. In the short span, he has not only impressed the management, but also found a space where he loves to return every morning.

At the NFL rookie premiere, Kay Adams of the Up and Adams podcast probed Sanders about the dynamics inside the Browns’ quarterback room. He instantly gushed about his latest workplace and the fellow quarterbacks. In addition to Shedeur Sanders, the Browns have a deep depth in Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson.

While he praised all his fellow quarterbacks, Sanders singled out Flacco with noticeable excitement. The rookie admitted that he found it surreal to share space with someone like Flacco.

It’s funny going there and seeing Joe [Flacco] every day. It’s funny seeing him because at practice I’m like, ‘Wow, I’m really with Joe Flacco right now, we’re on the same team!’

Shedeur Sanders noted

When Adams asked why Flacco impressed him so much, Sanders couldn’t fully explain. He laughed and simply said, “He’s sitting there and we’re on the same team.”

Among the active quarterbacks, Joe Flacco has earned his name alongside Matthew Stafford, Aaron Rodgers as one of the league. He entered the NFL in 2008 as a first-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens and quickly made an impact. He led the team to the playoffs in each of his first five seasons. In 2012, he led the Ravens to a Super Bowl win, bolstered by a spectacular postseason. The Super Bowl MVP threw 11 touchdowns and no interceptions in four games in that postseason.

Following his peak in Baltimore, Flacco’s career transitioned into a journeyman phase with stops in Denver, New York, and eventually Cleveland. In 2023, he revitalized his reputation by leading the Browns to an unexpected playoff berth and earning NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors. After a short stint with Indianapolis, Flacco has now returned to Cleveland, continuing to serve as a dependable presence in the quarterback room.

Shedeur Sanders spoke of Kenny Pickett and Deshaun Watson as well

Joe Flacco was not the only teammate Shedeur Sanders heaped praise on during his interview with Kay Adams. He also spoke highly of Kenny Pickett and Deshaun Watson.

Sanders claimed that the different quarterbacks in the locker room have different characteristics when asked what set them apart. He noted that Pickett carry a lot of experience being in the league for sometime and he loved to see the process of the same.

And then of course, with Kenny [Pickett], the experience he has being in the league for these years. It’s cool just seeing the process of it.

Shedeur Sanders said of Pickett

As for Watson, Sanders revealed that Watson still played an important role in the team. The disgraced quarterback sustained a season-ending injury, which has ruled him out of the 2025 season as well. He added that it was cool to talk to him.

However, there was one name that surprisingly didn’t pop in his speech on the quarterback dynamic, Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel, who was drafted ahead of Sanders by the Browns, is a direct competitor of Sanders and possibly the reason why he chose not to talk about him.

As things stand, Gabriel appears to have a slight edge. ESPN’s Mike Clay projected Gabriel could start in five games, compared to four for Sanders. In the upcoming OTAs, the Browns announced Pickett as the starter, with Gabriel slotted in as the backup and Sanders potentially playing the QB3 role, depending on where Flacco fits in the pecking order.
