Just like his father, Shedeur Sanders has also been quite opinionated about his future in the NFL, more specifically the team he wishes to embark on his journey from. After the success of this season, he is projected to be among the top five overall picks in the 2025 NFL Draft and looks like he has already set his sights on a particular team.
The Colorado Buffaloes may not have been able to qualify for the college football playoffs, but its star players were bestowed with the recognition they deserved. Given that the two-way star Travis Hunter is the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, Sanders was rewarded with the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Shortly after announcing his award, the senior quarterback dropped quite a major hint regarding the NFL team he wishes to join. He shared a video of him passing by the Las Vegas Raiders’ stadium, with a one-word caption of “Legendary.”
By the end of the season, if Sanders’ draft projections enhance to the first overall pick, then the Raiders 2-10, could certainly be a potential landing spot for the quarterback. And there’s a good chance that this move potentially transforms the Raiders as Coach Prime is thinking of moving to the NFL with his son to guide him as he did in Colorado.
However, the New York Giants have also emerged as a potential spot for Sanders since they are in the market in the quest for a franchise quarterback after releasing Daniel Jones. Drafting Sanders could be an answer to their problem, as pairing him with Malik Nabers can turn up quite well.
Shedeur Sanders aims to forge his own path in the NFL despite his father’s influence
Even though Colorado head coach Deion Sanders wants to guide his son every step of the way in his NFL journey, Shedeur wants to build a legacy separate from his father. Amid the rumors of Deion being interested in moving to the NFL with his fans, an AFC executive argued that the young quarterback should be his “own man in his own career.”
Regardless of what many believe, Shedeur wants to prove that he doesn’t need his father hand-holding him every step of the way and that he is more than capable of building his own legacy in the league.
Shedeur Sanders led Colorado football to a 9-3 record, closing the season with five wins in their last six games. Teaming up with Heisman contender Travis Hunter, Sanders showed significant growth in his second year with the Buffaloes.
This season, he posted 3,926 yards with 35 touchdown passes, eight interceptions, and a 74.2 QBR. And after winning the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, his draft projections have also enhanced.
