In Short
  • Shedeur Sanders switches from jersey No. 12 to No. 2, a number he wore in college.
  • Fans express excitement over Sanders' potential as the future starting quarterback for the Browns.
  • Browns owner praises Sanders for his offseason dedication and work ethic in preparation for the upcoming season.

When Shedeur Sanders came into the NFL, he was facing an uphill task to prove to the Cleveland Browns that they had not made a mistake selecting him in the fifth round of the 2025 Draft.

Naturally, due to his draft position, he was made the fourth-string QB, and then was upgraded to third-string when the team decided to focus on him and fellow rookie signal-caller Dillon Gabriel as their options behind starter Joe Flacco.

Later, after trading the latter to the Bengals, and then Gabriel suffering a concussion, Sanders finally got his chance to start. He did not disappoint, leading the Browns to finish with a respectable 3-4 record.

By the time the team finished their exit interviews, it was believed that the Colorado Buffaloes star had cemented his place as the starting quarterback for next season.

However, since the team moved on from Kevin Stefanski and hired Todd Monken, Shedeur Sanders’ starting job is not confirmed, as they want to evaluate all options before making a decision.

What the 24-year-old can do at least is to wear the jersey number he wanted rather than what he was handed in his first season. Last year, the QB wore No. 12, as wide receiver DeAndre Carter was signed to the team before they drafted Sanders.

Now, since it is unlikely that the veteran pass catcher will return to the team, Sanders has elected to take the vacant No. 2 jersey. something he wore at both Jackson State and Colorado.

Fans hype Shedeur Sanders after switching to favorite jersey number

When Shedeur Sanders announced this news first through his social media channels, his fans rejoiced, as they felt this was just the beginning of a long and fruitful career.

After all, his performances last season were enough proof that he belongs in the NFL. Those excited fans hyped their favorite young signal caller, examples of which are below:

Just changing jersey numbers might not be enough for Shedeur Sanders. He has to battle against the returning Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel in training camp.

It might not be restricted to those two, as the Browns are projected to select a quarterback in the upcoming Draft. However, with the amount of work he has been putting in, maybe he can have a head start.

Browns owner has high praise for Shedeur Sanders

During this offseason, video clips have emerged of Shedeur Sanders working out with trainers. On that note, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said this while conversing with ESPN reporter Daniel Oyefusi.

I was in Cleveland two or three weeks ago, and was working out early and he was coming in. He’s been in Cleveland most of the winter, and I think that says a lot for his dedication to wanting to be a NFL quarterback and understanding what it takes.

Jimmy Haslam said as quoted by Daniel Oyefusi

The billionaire has been vocal in the past about his players, and this time, he did not stop from giving praise where he felt it was deserved. For him to see a soon-to-be second-year player putting in the work throughout the offseason was a pleasure to the eyes.

Knowing that someone was putting the work in can score brownie points when the organization decides about their future with the team. However, it is still down to how he performs in training camp and then in the regular season.
