On the occasion of the New Year Eve, the New Jersey Devils took on the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Metropolitan Division side ended up losing 3-2 against the hosts leading to coach Sheldon Keefe blasting his team for their performance.
The Devils entered the game following a 5-2 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. While trying to bounce back from that defeat, they fell 2-0 at the start of the third period.
The team would pull back on level terms as goals from Jonas Siegenthaler and Timo Meier made it 2-2 in the third period. However, they conceded a late goal from Ryan Storme which turned out to be the deciding factor.
Keefe was unpleased with the efforts of his team. In the post-game conference, the former Toronto Maple Leafs coach slammed his players for their performance in this 3-2 defeat. He would label this presentation from his team as “disgraceful”.
The chances we gave up were completely egregious. You have no chance to win in the NHL playing like that. It was disgraceful.

The 44-year-old also mentioned that performance in the second and third period was the two worst periods of their season. In the second period, the Devils seemed a little sloppy at times and they accumulated just six shots on goals.
Sheldon Keefe backs goaltender Jacob Markstorm, suggest him to be ‘upset’ with his teammates
Following the New Jersey Devils 3-2 loss against the Anaheim Ducks, the players felt the wrath of their coach Sheldon Keefe. One player though who received backing from him was goaltender Jacob Markstorm. The head coach suggested that he (Markstrom) should be ‘upset’ with his teammates.

The goaltender faced 26 shots on goals during this game. He was able to make 23 stops and conceded three goals. As per Keefe, Markstrom was great in the game and deserved the two points from this game against the Ducks.
Marky was great, he deserved two points here today and he should be very upset with his teammates tonight.

Before this two losses, the Devils were on a three-game winning run. This two dropped games have seen the Washington Capitals leap-frog them for the top spot in the division. The Devils are currently one point behind the Capitals and have played three games more than their rivals.
