Sherrone Moore is in deep trouble. Moore not only lost his head coaching job at Michigan but also faces three criminal charges, as indicated in his arraignment on Friday.

The 39-year-old was charged with felony third-degree home invasion and two misdemeanors. He was accused of stalking in a domestic relationship and breaking and entering the house of the alleged plaintiff.

According to a report by Trey Wallace of Outkick and ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Moore was in jail custody on Wednesday and was only released after paying a $25,000 bond.

During the hearing, a prosecutor disclosed that Moore broke into the apartment of a female Michigan staff member, with whom he was romantically involved, despite being married for many years. After accusing her of ruining his life, he threatened to cut his hand with a “butter knife.”

NBC Sports’ Nicole Auerbach tweeted that the woman ended her relationship with Moore on Monday and turned in evidence against him to the university. Moore was fired on Wednesday before being arrested by the police.

Moore joined the arraignment via video conference. A clip shared by Wallace revealed Moore, in a white jumpsuit, answering “Yes, your honor” to two questions.

Jim Harbaugh breaks his silence on Sherrone Moore’s arrest

Of course, Jim Harbaugh will come into the frame one way or the other. Moore took over from Harbaugh after he left Michigan to coach the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL.

Harbaugh and Moore led the Wolverines to a college football championship victory in 2023. So, his former subordinates’ arrest had to affect him. Reporters asked Harbaugh about his thoughts on the matter on Thursday. He replied:

Still processing that like a lot of people, I’m sure.

Who are the leading candidates to become the next head coach at Michigan?

Moore was already on the hot seat, with or without the arrest. The Wolverines finished 9-3 and not only failed to qualify for the Big Ten championship game but also missed the chance to play in the CFP. Michigan still has one more game left on the calendar, and that’s to play ranked 13 Texas in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Day.

However, the team will be without a head coach unless they hire someone. One name that has come up several times in the last few days is Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. DeBoer could pull a Lane Kiffin or decide after Bama’s CFP game against Oklahoma a week from now.

Kenny Dillingham of Arizona is another name that has been circulating on the internet. According to Polymarket, Dillingham’s stocks have risen since Moore was fired.

Whoever Michigan picks will face a tough challenge in rebuilding the program. The Wolverines will always be an exciting destination for football, so there should be no shortage of talented players eager to come to Ann Arbor.
