Shilo Sanders might have jeopardized a roster spot on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after losing his cool in the preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday (August 23). He was ejected.
The Bills converted a one-point attempt after wide receiver Tyrell Shavers extended their lead with a diving one-handed catch in the second quarter. Shortly after, a Bucs and a Bills player were seen bickering with each other near the end zone.
The goal line referee threw a penalty flag to break up the fight. After a brief pause, the main official ejected the Bucs player from the game.
When the replay hit the TV screens, fans discovered the Bucs’ rookie safety, Shilo Sanders, throwing a massive punch at the Bills’ tight end, Zach Davidson.

Sanders’ fist struck Davidson’s facemask, prompting the official to penalize the defender by ejecting him from the game.
The Bucs suffered a 23-19 defeat to finish the preseason with a 2-1 record. After the game, reporters asked head coach Todd Bowles about Sanders’ ejection.
You can’t throw punches in this league. It’s inexcusable. They are gonna get you every time.

With a roster spot on the line, the ejection might end up hurting the 25-year-old’s stock.
Shilo wasn’t the only Sanders to experience a rough day. Earlier in the day, his younger brother, Shedeur Sanders, was benched by his head coach at the Cleveland Browns for poor quarterback play. However, unlike Shilo, Shedeur’s roster spot isn’t under threat.
Later in the day, Deion Sanders Jr. posted a Bible verse to show support for younger siblings.
From my earliest youth, my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me. Psalms 129:2

Why did Shilo Sanders go undrafted?
Shedeur cast a massive shadow with his highlight reel performances in college. Shilo could never outrun his younger brother’s fame. He did make a few high-IQ plays, but for the most part, he was inconsistent.

Sanders started his career at the University of South Carolina. After finishing his first two years, he transferred to Jackson State, where he notched 39 tackles and 4 INTs in 2021. However, he missed the following year due to a torn ACL and entered the NCAA portal for the second time to play for his father at Colorado.

The frequent school changes and subpar numbers hindered Shilo Sanders’ draft stock. Not receiving an invite to the NFL Combine proved the NFL teams weren’t too keen on drafting him.
Sanders ran a 4.52 40-yard dash on Colorado’s pro day, which isn’t relatively fast considering he’s a safety.

In 2015, Sanders was accused of assaulting John Darjean. The case went to trial in 2022. However, Sanders did not appear for the hearing, and the court ordered Sanders to pay Darjean $11.89 million. A year later, he filed for bankruptcy.
Shedeur went in the fifth round, and Shilo wasn’t drafted. He later hired an agent to receive an invite to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie camp. The NFC South team gave Sanders a contract.
People go through things, and you got to fight through it to come out on top. So I feel like a lot of people could relate to me.

The ejection may return to bite him in the back on roster cut day. So, he must prepare himself for the worst.
