The Asia Cup is heading towards the grand finale, and the hype can be felt. It is the first time that both India and Pakistan have made it to the final and will compete to be Asian champions.
From the hurl of abuse on the field between players to matters going to ICC off it, the rivalry has seen everything in the last two weeks creating an atmosphere of tension around the Dubai International Stadium where the mega showdown will take place.
However, amid this tension, Pakistani legend Shoaib Akhtar accidentally produced a hilarious moment and the aftermath of it made it difficult for fans to control their laughter. On a local show in Pakistan called ‘Game On Hai’, Akhtar has been one of the panelists who analyzes cricket matches and his opinions are loved by fans across the border as well.
However, during a recent pre-analysis of the India vs. Pakistan final, the fast bowler’s tongue slipped. In an intense discussion of how Pakistan could dominate the final by getting rid of Abhishek Sharma early, Akhtar accidentally said a different name.
In a hypothetical situation, if you get Abhishek Bachchan out early then what is going to happen with their middle order. Their middle order hasn’t performed that well.

Akhtar accidentally called opening batter Abhishek Sharma, Abhishek Bachchan to which the movie star also responded. The fans loved the slip of tongue but further enjoyed when Bachchan responded cheekily.
Bachchan took a dig at the Pakistani bowling in his response and got the Indian fans excited big time. A small moment of hilarity between the two countries before the final was a breath of fresh air as the tensions around the final have hit a soaring high.
Sir, with all due respect… don’t think they’ll even manage that! And I’m not even good at playing cricket.

It will be interesting to see that if on a serious note the Pakistani pace attack can get rid of the in-form Abhishek Sharma early who is having an absolute dream Asia Cup with consistently aggressive performances.
3 key battles that could decide the fate of the Asia Cup final
The India vs. Pakistan match hasn’t gotten any bigger in recent times. India does have the psychological edge and an extremely dominant record in the last few years over their neighbors. However, history suggests that Pakistan has inflicted pain on India in big finals despite India being favorites.
This element of uncertainty with Pakistan in big games has brought in the attention despite Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav dismissing talks of a rivalry between the two countries. Let’s look at the three key battles that could decide the fate of the big final on Sunday.
- Shaheen Afridi vs. Abhishek Sharma
Pakistan needs Shaheen Afridi to bowl with pinpoint accuracy. He has shown glimpses of being back to his best in the last two matches, but Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has been in sublime touch. In their previous two meetings Sharma has had the better of Afridi and has scored boundaries at will. However, Pakistan would believe that a final would add some extra pressure.

If Abhishek Sharma gets going in the final, it could be a very one-sided match with India taking a very big lead. However, if Afridi is able to land the ball correctly and get rid of the batter, he could push Pakistan in a zone from where they won’t have to look back.
- Haris Rauf vs. Suryakumar Yadav
Haris Rauf has dominated in the battle with Suryakumar Yadav. The pacer, in just the 10 balls he has bowled at the Indian captain, has dismissed him 3 times giving away only 11 runs. Suryakumar Yadav himself is going through a rough patch. If there is one match, he would want his form to come back, it would be this one. However, for that he would first have to nullify the Rauf threat.
- Jasprit Bumrah vs. Fakhar Zaman
Jasprit Bumrah and Fakhar Zaman have a bit of a history amongst them that dates back to the 2017 Champions Trophy final. Both players were much younger versions of their current selves. Bumrah had dismissed Zaman for 2, only for it to be a no-ball giving the batter a life. Zaman then made India pay and scored a match winning 114.
Since then, the batter has maintained a good record against the Indians often inflicting fear with his powerful strokes. He is one of the few batters who has a decent record against Bumrah and will look to put the same pressure in the final as well.
