SHOCKING: Jose Mourinho’s all-time XI doesn’t feature a single Manchester United player

Jose Mourinho

During his trophy-laden tenure at Porto, Inter, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, the renowned manager has managed some extraordinary players. His time at Old Trafford wasn’t quite as memorable, but he still managed to win three titles, the last three United had won.

It’s a difficult challenge to choose the greatest players Mourinho has worked with, but he managed to narrow it down to eleven when he selected his all-time starting line-up back in 2020 – with no United footballers making the cut.

Mourinho picked Chelsea keeper Peter Cech in the goalkeeping spot ahead of Iker Casillas and David De Gea. Mourinho managed Cech during his managerial stint at Chelsea and is a huge admirer of the Czech.

Defenders: Javier Zanetti – John Terry – Ricardo Carvalho – Ashley Cole

Again the defender spots are dominated by Chelsea players. He has named John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho as his centre-backs. Whereas Javier Zanetti and Ashley Cole play the fullbacks. Jose won the 2004 and 2010 Champions League with Porto and Inter. Zanetti was a part of the entire team, whereas Carvalho starred in the underdog Porto side.

Midfielders: Claude Makelele – Frank Lampard – Mesut Ozil

Jose had tasted EPL success with his first managerial tenure with Chelsea. Lampard and  Makelele were integral parts of his Chelsea squad which was so successful. He managed Ozil during his Real Madrid days and the German was on his very best under Jose’s mentorship.

Forwards: Eden Hazard – Didier Drogba – Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo

The 59-year-old named his friend three with the likes of Cristiano, Drogba and Hazard. Cristiano was a beast under Mourinho scoring 168 goals in just 164 games. Didier Drogba was a special signing for Mourinho’s Chelsea who later on became a club legend. Jose is also a great admirer of Eden Hazard and he was certainly in his prime under the Portuguese at Chelsea.

Mourinho is on the verge of winning his first European championship in 12 years. Last summer, the Portuguese took charge as the manager of AS Roma. He has led them to the final of the Europa Conference League’s first season, where they will face Feyenoord of the Netherlands on Wednesday.

He’s on the verge of earning his first European championship since the Europa League in 2017, which also happened to be the last time he won any type of trophy. He has won every imaginable title and might add another to his collection.
