In a city full of A-listers, Shohei Ohtani has become the main attraction. The 2024 National League MVP put on a show for the fans in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ home opener and left celebs Tom Hanks and Rob Lowe in awe following a home run against the Detroit Tigers.
Unlike the other teams, the Dodgers took to the field on Thursday with a 2-0 record. The Tokyo Series, which kick start the 2025 season, saw them sweep the Chicago Cubs with Ohtani homering in the second game of the season.
The home opener on Thursday saw fireworks again from the bats of Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernandez, and Shohei Ohtani. After Edman put the team on the board, Hernandez crushed a three-run home run to turn the game around.
With the Dodgers leading 4-3 in the seventh inning, Ohtani stepped up to the plate. After working a full count against Tigers’ right-hander Brenan Hanifee, the Japanese international slammed an opposite-field home run to extend the lead of his team. As he circled around the bases, the cameras panned out to catch the reaction of the celebs who were present at the Dodger Stadium.
Tom Hanks was seen shaking hands with someone while celebrating the home run. Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the NBA legend who owns a minority share of the team, was seen exchanging high-fives. Meanwhile, Rob Lowe seemed to have been left dumbfounded with his mouth wide open.

Ohtani eventually finished the day going 2-for-4. The Dodgers hung on to the lead and won the game 5-4. They are now the second World Series defending champions after the New York Yankees to start a new season 3-0. The Yankees achieved this feat in 2001 after they won the World Series in 2000.

Magic Johnson lauds Shohei Ohtani and other Dodgers stars for perfect home start to 2025 MLB season
The Dodger Stadium in Southern California was packed on Thursday as the 2024 World Series champions took to the field for the first time in front of their home fans. Earvin “Magic” Johnson would later laud Shohei Ohtani and other Dodger stars for showing up for them and treating the fans with a sight to see.

Tommy Edman kicked off the proceedings with a solo home run in the second inning against reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. The Tigers turned the game around and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of this inning, Skubal conceded a three-run home run against Teoscar Hernandez. This saw the Dodgers jump to a 4-2 lead. Ohtani then homered in the seventh innings to extend the lead even further. Johnson, the former Los Angeles Lakers star, would take to his X account to laud them.

Johnson became the minority owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012. Since then, the NBA legend has often been seen attending home games of the Dodgers and showered his support towards them.
Blake Snell picks up win in LA Dodgers debut
As the star-studded squad of the Los Angeles Dodgers took to the field on Thursday, the attention also turned towards Blake Snell, who was making his official debut for the team. After working through some trouble, the 2-time Cy Young Award winner picked up the win in his first start for his new franchise.

In a pitching duel against Tarik Skubal, Snell gave up a run through a wild pitch, which led to Spencer Torkelson opening the scoring for the Tigers in the fourth inning. He then gave up back-to-back singles to Gleyber Torres and Riley Greene before walking Torkelson to load the bases in the fifth.
The Tigers would then cash in their second run of the game through a sacrifice fly from Manuel Margot. He controlled the game from there on and closed down the fifth inning without leaking any more runs. In his first start as a Dodger pitcher, Snell picked up 2 strikeout and walked 4 batters.
