The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped another game against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. Two-way star Shohei Ohtani suffered his first loss as a pitcher as he had a tough outing from the mound. After the game, he expressed that he put the team in a “bad spot“.
After completing a 3-game series sweep of their division rivals, the San Diego Padres, the Dodgers turned their focus towards the Rockies. In the first game of the series, the Rockies, who have been the worst team in MLB this season, walked off against the Dodgers.
The reigning World Series champions did bounce back on Tuesday with an 11-4 win. On Wednesday, they entered the game hoping to take another series with Ohtani on the mound for the 10th time this season.
The Japanese international did not have a good time and struggled against the Rockies. He gave up a few hits which saw the Rockies put up some runs on the board.
After giving up a 3rd run in the bottom of the 4th inning, Ohtani found himself in trouble. With 2 runners on base and 1 out, he got hit by a 93.7 mph comebacker off the bat of Orlando Arcia. This allowed the Rockies to add another run.

The 3-time MLB MVP would limp off a bit but stayed on. He conceded another run and ended the game with 4 innings pitched and giving up 5 runs through 9 hits. The Dodgers were unable to mount a comeback and ended up losing 8-3, giving Ohtani his 1st loss of the season.
After the game, he would open up about this performance. While speaking with the reporters, Ohtani labeled it as a ‘very regrettable‘ outing from his end.
It’s very regrettable. Put the team in a bad spot. It was just a very regrettable outing that I wish I could have done better.
Shohei Ohtani said as per interpreter Will Ireton while speaking with the reporters
"Very regrettable, put the team in a bad spot, it was just a very regrettable outing that I wish I could have done better."

This was just the 2nd time in his career that Ohtani had surrendered 9 hits in one game. The last time he had such an outing was against the Houston Astros in 2021 when he was with the Los Angeles Angels. With this performance, his season ERA increased up to 4.61.
LA Dodgers manager Dave Roberts ‘hopeful’ of Shohei Ohtani playing on Friday against Padres
The Los Angeles Dodgers had a day to forget on Wednesday. Not only did they lose against the Colorado Rockies, but they also suffered an injury scare regarding Shohei Ohtani. However, manager Dave Roberts is ‘hopeful‘ to see him play on Friday in the series opener against the San Diego Padres after a scheduled day off on Thursday.

Ohtani could hit in his thigh through a comebacker off the bat of Orlando Arcia. While he remained in the game for a while, he was replaced in the lineup by pinch-hitter Alex Call in the 8th inning. Roberts claimed that the Japanese international was getting stiffed by the blow.
It was getting stiff and there was some swelling in there. It was in the thigh, fortunately, and not off the knee. But it got him square… I felt as the game was going to go on, it was going to stiffen up more.
Dave Roberts said as per MLB.com
Dave Roberts said Shohei Ohtani was "getting stiff" and was sore in the thigh, leading to him being taken out of the game.

He said he felt Shohei would "stiffen up more," so he pulled him.
He says he was "hopeful" Ohtani would be back Friday, and then changed it to "confident."
The Dodgers will be hoping to avoid a series loss against the Rockies with a win on Thursday. After that, they will travel to Petco Park to face off against the Padres in a 3-game series, which could have huge ramifications in the NL West Standings.
