Though the Los Angeles Dodgers won Game 2 of the World Series against the New York Yankees, they seem to have suffered a major blow. During the game, Shohei Ohtani got injured while sliding onto the second base.
With the Dodgers leading 4-1 in the seventh inning, Ohtani drew out a walk from Clay Holmes. As seen often this season, the Japanese international took from first base in an attempt to steal and get into a scoring position at second.
While sliding into the second base to save himself from getting tagged out, Ohtani’s left hand hit the ground hard. It seemed that this resulted in the force getting to his shoulder.
The 2023 AL MVP remained on the ground before the trainers rushed out to assist him. He would then leave the field with the help of a trainer.

The Dodgers staff initially expressed optimism regarding the 30-year-old’s first movement and strength tests. However, further examinations will confirm the extent of his condition in the next few days.
Dodgers coach Dave Roberts provides crucial update on Shohei Ohtani’s injury
Following the end of Game 2 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees, Dave Roberts provided a crucial update on Shohei Ohtani. The 52-year-old informed that Ohtani had suffered a shoulder subluxation.
This injury to Ohtani comes after he recovered from a recent elbow surgery. Due to this, he has been unable to pitch during the 2024 season.
"We're gonna get some tests at some point tonight/tomorrow and then we'll know more in the next couple of days. The strength was great, the range of motion good, so we're encouraged"

The MLB on Fox crew of Kevin Burkhardt, Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz, and Derek Jeter would later discuss this injury as well. While A-Rod claimed that Ohtani’s absence would not affect the Dodgers if he missed one game, Ortiz disagreed with him and stated that his (Ohtani) presence on the lineup was on another level.
"His presence in the lineup is on another level. When you know you have Ohtani leading off the game, the puts pressure on the opposition."

So far in the World Series, Ohtani has registered one hit in eight plate appearances across the two games. Only time will now tell the extent of his injury as the Dodgers will now travel to New York for Game 3 of this series on Monday, October 28.
