Another day, another award for Shohei Ohtani. It seems hard to stop him from winning awards at the moment. On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers star was named as the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter (DH) Award winner for a fourth season running.
The award, named after Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez, is given to the best Designated Hitter of the league. After recovering from a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, Ohtani was used as a DH only, and did not make any appearances from the pitching mound.
During his first season with the Dodgers, the 30-year-old broke several records along the way. In September in a game against the Miami Marlins, he scripted history.
Ohtani went 6-for-6 with three home runs, two doubles, 10 RBIs, and two stolen bases. This saw him become the first player to record 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases.
After founding the 50-50 club, Ohtani finished the regular season with a slash line of .310/.390/.646. He hit 54 home runs, amassed 130 RBI, and stole 59 bases. As for the postseason, he hit three home runs and drove in ten runs.

Luck alone is not enough
the result of effort
On top of all this, Ohtani was also named the National League Hank Aaron Award winner on Thursday. He became just the second Dodgers player after Matt Kemp (2011) to win this honor.
He now turns his attention to the National League MVP award. After winning the American League MVP award unanimously last year, many are expecting him to do the same this year as well. He is one of the three finalists for this award this year, along with Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets, and Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
