Shooting at Tokyo Olympics saw the mixed team 10m air pistol qualification round 2 take place soon after the first round was Over. Indian Duo Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary qualify in the top spot. 2 Chinese teams, Iran, Ukraine, ROC, Australia and Serbia rounded off the top 8 qualifiers. The top 2 teams at the end of this round would go on to the gold medal match, while the teams in 3rd and 4th positions would fight it out for the bronze. Each team had to shoot a total of 40 shots, 20 each in 20 minutes.

China’s Ranxin Jiang and Peng Wei held a strong lead, with a first series of 97 and 97. Thetook their spot in the gold medal match with a second series of 95, 98 and a total score of 387. ROC’s Vitilina and Artem took the second spot in the gold medal match with 97, 96 and 95, 98 finishing with a score of 386.

Ukraine’s Olena and Oleh finished third and will go on to the bronze medal match with a first series of 97 and 97 and a second series of 98, 94 eventually finishing with a 386. While the Ukrainians could only manage 11x, the ROC had 13, which put them in second place. Serbia’s Zorana and Damir had strong performances, with the first series ending with 97,95 and the second series got them a score of 96 each, which was enough to secure their spot for the bronze medal match.

Saurabh got off to a shaky start, shooting a few 9s, but ultimately finishing the first series with a score of 96. Manu had a few stray 8 in the first series but finished off the nail biting first series with a total score of 92.

Chaudhary gave and exceptional second series performance, with a score of 98. The pressure was on Manu Bhaker to deliver, and unfortunately she succumbed under the pressure shooting a few more 8s. She ultimately finished with a score of 94, well short of what was required of her to secure a place in the finals. While Saurabh Chaudhary’s scores were looking hopeful for a top 4 finish, Bhaker could not keep up, and India’s medal hopes were over as they finished 7th, with a score of 380.

The Indian duo has had a poor outing in the individual matches as well, with Saurabh finishing 7th in the individual finals as well, and Manu Bhaker not being able to qualify for the finals.
