Abhinav Bindra is without a doubt one of the most revered Indian athletes. The winner of the first ever individual Olympic gold when he aced the 10 meter air rifle event at the Beijing Games in 2008, scaled stunning heights thanks to his never-say-die attitude and hard work. A phenomenon in the Indian sporting world, Abhinav Bindra truly was a one of a kind sportsperson whose story inspires.

The Olympics’ official channel have now released a video on Bindra‘s career and his achievements leading up to the incredible moment of clinching the country’s first gold since 1980. The original series titled ‘Legends Live On’ has interviews from his father, mother, coaches and Bindra himself. The video which was released yesterday has been receiving rave reviews for the motivational take on one of the greatest sportspersons in Indian history.

In the video that was released by Olympics, Bindra recollects his career, life and all his achievements. “I dedicated a countless number of hours and effort to this sport. My career has been a long journey that taught me so many life lessons. I won the first-ever individual Olympic gold medal for India,” he says.

Talking of his perpetual desire to succeed, “I won the club competition. Then I wanted to win the State Championship. Then I wanted to win the national championship. And then I wanted to represent my country and then of course I wanted to be an Olympian. It was a desire which came so strongly from within me. It was almost like a calling,” he adds.

Bindra’s father and mother too express their pride at their son’s remarkable achievement talking of how they always knew that he was special and that he had an ‘inborn talent’. Abhinav Bindra also talks of the various nuances involved in the sport of shooting in the video.

About the winning moment in 2008, “From within I was so happy and I was so fulfilled. I achieved what I set out to do. All the sacrifices that I made… I got on to the podium even before my name was called out. I got on when my country’s name was called out. To me, of course, it was a personal victory but it was also a great victory for that belief… that you know Indians can get to the top step of this Olympic podium,” Bindra says.

Abhinav Bindra is currently occupied with coaching as he has set up Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance Centers where there is physiotherapy and rehabilitation services provided along with data analysis backed by technology.
