Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso are part of the Chicago Sky's rebuild towards another championship.
Chicago Cubs star Shota Imanaga poses awkwardly with Chicago Sky rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso before today's game
Since Angel Reese burst onto the scene, she has garnered a lot of fans for the way she struts both on as well as off the court. Although fellow Chicago Sky teammate Kamilla Cardoso is not in the same league in terms of stardom, the duo together do bring a lot of attention. But for Japanese Chicago Cubs star Shota Imanaga, that attention seemed a bit too much when he posed for a picture alongside them.
Shota Imanaga is in his first season in the MLB. But the ‘The Throwing Philosopher’ as he is known, has already established himself as someone to watch out for this season. That stardom did not go unnoticed when both Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso joined him to pose for pictures. They were part of the pre-game build-up before today’s game against the Atlanta Braves. But the seemingly shy pitcher held an awkward pose beside these two beauties.
Shota Imanaga’s awkwardness suggested that he will take to adjust to the glitz and glamor that comes with playing in the United States. But he will have to learn fast to soak in all that if his game brings about success for the Cubs.
The two Chicago Sky rookies then proceeded to throw their 1st pitches in front of the Chicago Cubs faithful. The Brazilian center had a slightly better of the two throws, however, they both enjoyed their time after being invited to Wrigley Field.
Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso to lead Chicago Sky to title soon
The Chicago Sky won their only WNBA title in 2021 thanks to Chicago native and now-retired WNBA legend Candace Parker. Since she left the team, they have struggled to match those winning days. Therefore, the team decided to do an all-out rebuild this summer. In came former WNBA All-Star and New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach Teresa Weatherspoon.
Then came the decision to trade for draft picks. The Sky wanted core players to build on. They selected NCAA Champion Kamilla Cardoso with the 3rd overall pick. Then sensing an opportunity, they traded up 1 spot to nab Angel Reese before anyone else could snap her. The duo are set to be the cornerstones of the franchise. Both are intelligent rebounders, shot blockers and scorers.
With these two in place, the Sky can now look to add other players to complete the rebuild. They need a championship roster. For that to happen, it is important to build chemistry between the young players and veterans in these early days.
