India vs England 2021: Shreyas Iyer ruled out of final two ODIs; in doubt for IPL
Shreyas Iyer's injury in the first ODI
Shreyas Iyer injured his shoulder while fielding in the first ODI for India against England that ended in favor of the hosts who drew first blood in the three-match ODI series. His injury is a blow to India who are now set to miss his services in the next two matches but with plenty of backup options available, they wouldn’t fret too much. However, his presence for the Indian Premier League (IPL) being in doubt does ring alarm bells.

Shreyas Iyer is the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise’s captain and if he does get to miss a part of the IPL, it would be a big blow to their hopes of winning the title. DC open their IPL campaign against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the 10th of April and DC would hope their ace batsman and young captain gets fit before the tournament kicks off in Mumbai (for DC).
Shreyas Iyer suffers dislocated shoulder
During the eighth over of England’s innings bowled by Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer dived to his left to stop a short while fielding at cover. He stopped it well and saved two runs for his side but crash landed on his left shoulder. Iyer was seen writhing in pain as the Indian players and the physio came rushing in. He then walked off the field holding the shoulder in agony as Shubman Gill replaced him as a substitute. BCCI then announced on Twitter that Iyer would be taken for scans.
It has now been confirmed by reports from Cricbuzz that Iyer would miss the final two ODIs and that his participation in the IPL is also a doubt. Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that Shreyas Iyer was signed two days ago by English county side Lancashire for the Royal London One-Day Cup that will take place in July.
