Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer is currently the only Indian to be followed by social media giant Instagram’s official handle on the same platform. Iyer is among India’s up and coming cricketers who is touted to become a mainstay in the national team for years to come. The 25-year-old has already represented India in 40 limited overs games in his career.
Iyer also leads his Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals (DC). The right-handed batsman captained his side and inspired them to a second-placed finish for the first time in history. Following his exploits in the IPL or for some other reason, Instagram have followed Iyer on the same platform.
It is noteworthy that Instagram were following Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma but now the couple aren’t to be seen in Instagram’s following list.
Instagram follows Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma but unfollows later

The power couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma became the first Indians to appear on Instagram’s popular ‘Take a Break’ series in August. Following the appearance, the couple became the first Indians to be followed by Instagram. But it now has come to light that Instagram must have unfollowed the two as they now longer appear in the ‘Following’ section.
It is also worth noting that Instagram is not following any other Indian apart from Shreyas Iyer. None of the popular worldwide figures like Sachin Tendulkar or MS Dhoni are being followed. Iyer holds the distinction (if it can be called that) right now of being the only Indian to be followed by Instagram.
