India and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Shubman Gill has taken to international cricket like a piece of cake. Making his ODI debut in 2019 and Test debut in 2020, the youngster has been excellent on the biggest stage and has showed that he is the future of Indian cricket. Armed with excellent and sound technique coupled with perfect temperament, Gill has a long way to go but he has shown that he already belongs.
Making his debut in the Boxing Day Test for India against Australia, the opener took the Aussies by storm with consistent performances in the tour. His 91 in the deciding test of the series at the Gabba was a key knock, without which winning the series would have been made more difficult. Although Gill did not shine in the subsequent series against England, he is clearly here to stay.
Shubman Gill picks between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar
In a recent conversation with fellow promising Indian cricket in women’s team’s Jemimah Rodrigues, Shubman Gill was put on the spot when he was asked to pick between former Indian cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar and current Indian side captain Virat Kohli. Gill had already stated in various interviews that his idol was the former while he had also stated that the latter was one of his favourites.
Gill’s answer was “Sachin Tendulkar” as was expected. The answer was termed to be ‘diplomatic’ by Jemimha Rodrigues as the two had a laugh about it.
Shubman Gill is currently occupied with the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise in the IPL. He hasn’t quite fired for the side yet, but will hope to come good soon. His side faces Rajasthan Royals today.
