IPL 2021: “It’s all about how you adapt” – Shubman Gill says ‘strike rates are overrated’

Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill has been one of the vital cogs in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) wheel. Last year, he was instrumental in providing the side with good starts and anchoring the innings. Although the team did not make it to the playoffs as they fell in a must-win encounter in their last league game, there were glimpses of a strong team shown by the Indian batters led by Gill, Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana.
Gill will once again be tasked with opening the innings for KKR this season. He is coming off the back of a scintillating summer in Australia that saw him shine on debut to help India clinch a famous victory. Against the subsequent series against England at home however, the opening batsman was not able to shine as much as he would have liked. He would love to return to form in IPL 2021.
Shubman Gill speaks on the IPL season

Shubman Gill spoke to PTI about the upcoming IPL season and stated that strike-rates were not very important. “I think strike-rate is kind of overrated. It’s all about how you adapt to a certain situation. If the team demands you to play with a strike rate of 200 you should be able to do it. If the team demands you to play at a strike rate of 100, you should be able to do it. It’s just about adapting to the match situation. There shouldn’t be a certain pattern to your game where you are only able to play one kind of game and not be able to adapt to different situations,” he said.
Speaking of where he would bat in the order for KKR, Gill said, “I’ll be pretty comfortable and up for it whether the team requires me to bat in the middle-order or higher up. I’m up for anything.”
KKR will begin their IPL campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on the 11th of April.
