Michael Chandler is currently ranked #7 in the UFC lightweight division. Notably, he is a fighter who frequently seeks out high-stakes matchups and lucrative fights. This ambition once led to a booking for a showdown against former UFC double champion Conor McGregor. However, that fight ultimately did not take place.

Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler were set to headline the UFC 303 PPV event. However, before the event, the ‘Notorious’ had to withdraw due to a toe injury. Following this, Chandler became frustrated with the prolonged wait for McGregor and chose to move on from the matchup. Months later, in an interview session, Chandler expressed his hope that the fight against the Irishman could still happen.

I think Conor’s got an uphill battle here with, you know, just getting out of the limelight for the wrong reasons. And the best thing I think he can do is get into a training camp and I haven’t been promised it but there’s been a lot of assurances that when he comes back, he’s going to fight me because why wouldn’t he.

Instead of facing McGregor, Chandler chose to compete against former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. This decision seemingly angered the Irishman, who lashed out at the American fighter. However, Chandler remained unfazed and looked forward to his rematch with Oliveira.

Unfortunately, he ended up losing the fight, as the Brazilian fighter outclassed him in every aspect of the sport. Meanwhile, McGregor has found himself entangled in several controversial activities, which have delayed his return to the UFC octagon.

Notably, the Irishman was found liable in a s*xual assault case, resulting in significant damages both financially and to his reputation. Despite this setback, Chandler has expressed a strong desire to face off against McGregor whenever he makes his comeback. In a recent interview, ‘Iron’ reaffirmed his wish to fight McGregor.

Michael Chandler likes ‘the idea of fighting’ Paddy Pimblett

‘Iron’ Michael Chandler entered the UFC with a strong reputation as a former Bellator lightweight champion, which allowed him to quickly ascend the ranks within the division. However, he is currently facing a difficult period, having won only one out of his last five fights in the promotion. Despite this struggle, Chandler remains an exciting challenge for many rising stars in the lightweight category.

Notably, Paddy Pimblett, a rising contender from Liverpool, is making waves in the 155-pound division. Recently, Pimblett hinted at a possible fight against Chandler. A few weeks later, the American fighter also chimed up to discuss the rumored matchup. To be precise, Chandler stated how he loves the idea of fighting Pimblett.

I like the idea of fighting Paddy Pimblett and making a ton of money. I don’t want to say it’s an easy fight, because I could go out there and slip on a banana peel and get knocked out in front of everybody, but let’s just say I like the fight stylistically. I like Paddy as a human. I think he’s one of the good ones.

Interestingly, unlike Chandler, Pimblett is coming off an impressive victory against Bobby ‘King’ Green at UFC 304. Time and again, the Scouser has showcased impressive MMA skills, making him a highly sought-after opponent in the current UFC lightweight division. Now, it remains to be seen if Pimblett and Chandler will actually face each other next.
