With February inching closer, the excitement levels among NHL fans regarding the 4 Nations Face-Off have started to rise. On Thursday night, the captains of the teams were announced. Team Canada would select Sidney Crosby as the leader of the team.

The veteran forward currently serves as the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins. During his tenure as captain of the team, he has led them to 3 Stanley Cup triumphs.

On the International level, Crosby has led Team Canada before. He was the alternate captain during the 2010 and 2014 Winter Games in Vancouver and Sochi. Apart from that, he was the team captain during the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Given his age, there were some who wondered whether he would get to lead the pack again. The answer to that is yes. At the age of 37 he will once again led his country into an international tournament.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Colorado Avalanche star forward Cale Makar will be the two alternate captains of the team. Interestingly, McDavid had picked Crosby as the team leader before and claimed that he should be the one to have the Captain’s “C” on the jacket.

I am excited for the opportunity to once again represent Canada on the international stage… I look forward to serving on the leadership group with Connor and Cale, as they are both excellent leaders and are deserving of this honor.

Canada will open the tournament against Sweden on February 12 from the Bell Centre in Montreal. They will then face the United States on February 15 and Finland on February 17. If they finish in the two standings, they will qualify for the final on February 20.

Speaking of the 4 Nations Face Off, Team United States has named Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews as their captain. Whereas, Finland and Sweden will be lead by Aleksander Barkov of the Florida Panthers and Victor Hedman of the Tampa Bay Lightning respectively.
