The Pittsburgh Penguins pulls the plug on goalie Tristan Jarry following the team’s third straight loss on Tuesday against the Seattle Kraken. They have currently lost seven in their past eight games and are sitting only four points out of the playoff spot.
Their seven-day road trip is about to begin and it’ll be a crucial point for the Penguins to secure their Stanley Cup spot. However, given the situation with Jarry and his inability to overcome his slump, they will be placing him on waivers.
However, it is doubtful is any team is willing to pick up Jarry given his performance so far in the season. So far he has posted a record of 8-7-4 with a 3.32 goals-against-average and a .886 save percentage.
While it’s a tough situation for Tristan Jarry to be in, the Penguins are afraid to give him any more changes to affect their overall performance in the season any further. Team captain Sidney Crosby talked about how tough it is for everyone, especially for the goalie.

Jarry’s struggle with the net has been a large issue for Pittsburgh this season. If he clears the waivers he’ll be sent to the AHL club to further polish his skills. In the meantime, Joel Blomqvist will be taking the goaltending post after a continued promising performance in the minors.

He has posted 3-5 with a 3.60 GAA and a .904 save percentage. The decision to put Jarry on the waivers comes 18 months after the team signed him to a 5-year $5.375 million AAV. While his 2020 and 2022 performance has been top-notch, he has failed to keep it up in the last two seasons.
Penguins coach Mike Sullivan believes in Tristan Jarry’s turnover
On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas commented on the Tristan Jarry ongoing situation. He said that Joel Blomqvist deserves a chance to play with the team after his consistently good performance with the Wilkes-Barre in the past year and a half.
According to MoneyPuck, Tristan Jarry has found himself making the list of one of the worst records. He is the fifth goalie in the league to give up 9.5 more goals than expected, marking him in the worst category.
Dubas on Jarry: "He's continued to come in here, put the work in and that's not been a question at all. That just hasn't materialized the way we would like it to on the ice. At this level, you get to the point where you have to do what's right… for him and for us."

While there is no doubt he may find his footing later on, it may not be happening with the Penguins. Team coach Mike Sullivan is optimistic about Tristan Jarry’s turnabout, but he is unsure about the timeline.
