On Saturday night, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby wrote another chapter in his glorious NHL story. The veteran scored his 600th NHL and became just the 21st player to do so. However, he was not happy with it as his team lost again.
The Penguins have not enjoyed a good start to the 2024-25 season. They entered this game a day after losing 4-1 to the Winnipeg Jets, in which Crosby got into a fight.
The historic moment from Crosby came in the second period when the Pens were 2-0 down. As time winded down on their 5-on-3 powerplay, the Pens captain was able to find the back of the net after a sharp pass from Erik Karlsson.
The PPG Paints Arena would explode with joy as Crosby reached this milestone. Unfortunately for them, they were not able to celebrate for long. The visitors would score four more goals and ran away as emphatic 6-1 winners.
After the game, an unhappy Crosby admitted that this moment was not enjoyable as his team got hammered by Utah HC.
Sidney Crosby, on getting 600 in a game like this: "…Obviously, they get one shortly after and get the lead back. Even with that, we’re still in the game. We’re doing some good things, and it gets away from us."

Sidney Crosby joins Wayne Gretzky in exclusive club after historic 600th goal
While Sidney Crosby may not have got the result he and his teammates wanted on Saturday, his goal was a historic one. The Penguins captain not only became the 21st different player to reach this landmark but also joined Wayne Gretzky in an exclusive club.
When it comes to NHL records, Gretzky’s name will likely be on top almost every time. “The Great One” now has a company in an exclusive club.
Crosby’s 600th goal made him the second player to have at least 1,600 points, 2 Conn Smythe Trophies and 3 Stanley Cups. The 37-year-old has 1,617 points (600 goals and 1,017 assists), won the Conn Smythe trophy back-to-back in 2016 and 2017, and has lifted the Stanley Cups in 2009, 2016 and 2017.

Sidney Crosby also becomes the second Penguins player to reach 600 goals. Former captain and Hockey Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux was the first one to do so. “Super Mario” would finish his career with 690 goals.
The current Penguins captain would need 91 more goals to become the team’s all-time leading goal-scorer. However, at the moment, that does not seem to be a concern for him.
The Pittsburgh Penguins‘ poor form this season is something that is troubling him and his teammates. Following this loss, they are left with a 7-12-4 record and bottom of the Metropolitan Division.
