Simeone confident of Atletico getting back to form in La Liga after 1-1 draw against Real Betis

Atletico Madrid maintained their lead at the top of La Liga albeit by just a point after a 1-1 draw against Real Betis. Yannick Carrasco’s early goal was equalized by Christian Tello in the 20th minute to end their losing run in La Liga.

Earlier, Real Madrid’s win over Barcelona in the El Claisco propelled them to the top of the league and has brought life to the La Liga title race going into the final 8 matches of the season. That was the first time Atletico had been knocked off the top since December when they went on to mount a run that saw them go 10 points clear with a game in hand at the start of February.

“We will see what happens, all the teams have a moment of irregularity and hopefully we have passed it after today’s draw,” Simeone told a post match interview with Marca.

“We have maintained a firm and strong step this season as both Madrid and Barcelona have begun to recover so we will wait and see.”

Diego Simeone faces a tough task in the final 8 matches as a number of key players are out of action including the likes of Suarez, Kondogbia, Moussa Dembele and Marcos Llorente. Right-back Kieran Trippier went off injured in the recent match and had to be replaced by Vrsjalko.

“We made an excellent start but when there was little danger they managed to score. We kept trying and we’ve dropped two points but we’re still top and our fate is in our own hands,” said Atletico captain Koke.
