World No. 3 Simona Halep still has “2 dreams to achieve”
Simona Halep who currently sits on the 3rd position in the WTA rankings, still has 2 dreams she wants to accomplish and reach the culmination of her successful career.
The 29-year old Romanian is the winner of 2 Grand Slam titles winning the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon totalling her career titles to 22. She has been a consistent player for over a decade, with 22 titles and finishing as the runner-up on 17 occasions.
Talking at an interview with Digi Sport’s Ace of Tennis show, Simona Halep said the gold medal at the Olympic Games is one honour she would like to have.
“My plan is to play in the 2024 Olympic Games. To be a captain at the FED Cup one day. Not necessarily after I retire, to be a captain during my career. It would be an honor,” she said.

The former World No.1 last featured in the quarter-finals of the 2021 Australian Open losing out to Serena Williams in straight sets, and since then is yet to play any tournament.
The Romanian decided in 2019 to not feature in the Fed Cup giving priority to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, due to the Pandemic, the tournament has been postponed to 2021 and Halep is yet to officially confirm her availability for future Fed Cup games.
Halep said, “I gave everything I could at the FED Cup, it’s my dream to win the trophy, I say it’s possible, we have a strong team, we have people who are with us. To be a captain at the FED Cup one day. Not necessarily after I retire, to be a captain during my career. It would be an honour.”
Speaking about her future at the Olympics, Simona concluded saying, “My plan is to play in the 2024 Olympic Games.”
