“Important to get vaccinated,” believes Simona Halep

Simona Halep, two time Grandslam champion will compete at the Madrid Open this week. She enters as the third seed, after having finished as the runner-up in the last edition of the tournament. Recently, the Romanian opined on the topic of professional players getting the covid-19 vaccination.

There has been a mixed reaction with regards to the vaccination proposed by ATP/WTA. The governing bodies have given incentives to players who take the vaccine. According to the rules, any player who has taken the shot, will not be deemed in close contact of a player who has tested positive. Hence, he will not have to undergo a mandatory isolation period.

Simona Halep’s take on vaccination

Simona Halep was one of the first players to advocate the covid-19 vaccination, after she took the shot, and posted it on her social media. The world number three believes that it is important for tennis players to take the vaccine, despite being in the bubble. She also stated that the vaccination drive by ATP-WTA is a great initiative.

“I think it’s important to get vaccinated, even if we still have to stay in the bubble. It’s very good to see both the WTA and ATP committing to give the players the opportunity to get a vaccine in the tournaments,Halep added.

Simona Halep opens her campaign in Madrid on Friday, as she faces the Spaniard, Sara Sorribes Tormo. She last played at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, where the 29-year old lost to Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets in the semifinals.
