Simone Biles and the US women’s gymnastics team won gold in the team final today at the Paris 2024 Games. Biles now has five Olympic golds and eight overall. The highest total for an American gymnast in history. She closed out the entire Paris 2024 Olympics women’s gymnastics team final on the floor routine with a whopping 14.666 score.
The Spring, TX. native and teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera were heavy favorites for the gold. Just a day before, she was nursing a calf injury yet hedged an all-around standing with 59.566 points after 2/5 qualifying rounds. The women’s all-around Team final began at 12:15 p.m. ET/9:15 a.m. PT, streaming on NBC platforms and Peacock. Lee joined Biles on vault, bars, beam, and floor exercises, whole other others for the vault.
Simone Biles, the showstopper she is, went first. Chiles placed second in the final rotation for the Americans and scored another mammoth 13.966. She subsequently sent the crowd into a frenzy. Suni Lee opened the final rotation for the Americans with the 13.533 on the floor.
There are four rotations in artistic gymnastic finals. The USA opened the team final with a bang: On vault, where Simone Biles nailed the cheng. Then it was uneven bars, where Suni Lee anchored for a 14.566. The balance beam followed before the floor exercise, another Biles specialty. All such streaming coverage can re-air in full swing.
Simone Biles’ beam score stretches Americans’ lead at Paris 2024
Team USA inched closer to a third Olympic gold in four tries after Simone Biles maintained her focus on the beam. Biles nearly wobbled on a wolf turn, then did lose her balance on an aerial. But she didn’t incur a fall and soared and scored as she does. And thanks to JSS AI Scoring, it all registered in favor, at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 27-year-old isn’t a fan of the uneven bars. Given that the artistic gymnast was also carrying a hurt calf, her routine was smooth and steady, almost landing en route to a score of 14.400. Jonathan Owens, her husband, was visibly cheering her on through the ordeal.
On the Vault, she didn’t opt for her signature Yurchenko double pike — yet snagged a 14.9 for her Cheng. She smiled and high-fived the trainer, Laurent Landi, and then Cecile Landi. Her 14.366 scaling on the digits will be a higher marker of the night. The USA now has a 3.6-point lead over Italy, which is currently in silver medal contention. Great Britain is also on track, stocking up on bronze.
While “Simone for President” banners awkwardly hugged the wind drift, “This Is What You Came For” by Calvin Harris and Rihanna played over the loudspeaker. They came for it and they did it. As such, the win put them in quite a stride and proved why Simone Biles continues to be the artistic gymnastic G.O.A.T.
