Gilbert Arenas gives bold suggestions to the 76ers franchise

Philly fans have experienced a very disappointing season so far. Heading into the season, this was not what the franchise had expected when they traded for Paul George to team up with Joel Embiid. Plagued by injuries and improper load management, the Philadelphia 76ers organization is facing serious problems that need to be addressed as soon as possible.

Both these players cost the 76ers around $100 million in yearly salary, and their unavailability for most part of the season is a huge slap in the face for the organization as well as the fans. Out of the 25 games the Philadelphia 76ers have played so far, Embiid has participated in only seven, whereas George has missed 10 of those games, reportedly due to a knee injury.

Touching on the subject, Gilbert Arenas offered some blunt suggestions for the franchise during Friday’s episode of The Gilbert Arenas Show.

You should have cut the cord f*cking weeks ago. Embiid, cut. Paul George, we’ll see. If not, get healthy. They’re not going to help you win a championship this year, so if they can’t help you win a championship, shut them down. I just paid you money, I need to protect it. I don’t give a f*ck what y’all talking about, chill out.

Gilbert Arenas said on his show

As injuries keep compounding and their championship aspirations continue to grow slimmer, perhaps it’s time for the 76ers management to bench Joel Embiid and Paul George indefinitely until the next season when they are completely healthy to take charge. It’s tentative whether they will even make the playoffs this year, let alone make a title run.

Although hard in his critique of the players, Gilbert Arenas and his panel do make some valid arguments. Maybe it’s time to reconsider their goals for the season. It wouldn’t hurt to let the younger guys on the team steer the ship for a while in the absence of the captain. In the meantime, George and Embiid can focus solely on rehabilitating and preparing for the next season.

Gilbert Arenas claims Joel Embiid is too selfish

Earlier this month, during an episode of the Gilbert Arenas Show, Arenas went on a tirade of criticism against the Philly center. Accusing the big man of being “too selfish” to take a back seat to let someone else take hold of the team, Gilbert Arenas indicated that the 76ers franchise is not too happy with the Cameroonian-American basketball player on the court.

I am just gonna be honest. They [Philidelphia Seventy-Sixers] don’t look happy when Embiid is out there. Yeah, you are good, but we’re sitting here practicing every day… and you are not healthy, and you are too selfish to take a back seat.

Gilbert Arenas explained

The former three-time All-Star has also questioned Embiid’s fitness before, calling him “overweight” and “lazy.” He has been a perpetual critic of Joel Embiid, condemning his leadership style and ineffective load management methods.

However, the former NBA player tries to be as objective as possible in his reproval. On several occasions, he has proclaimed that he is truly convinced Joel Embiid is far better than Nikola Jokic, and when he is in his zone, he is in the conversation for the top three in the center position.
