Finnish cross-country skier Remi Lindholm, who has been pictured several times training in his underpants, suffered a ‘frozen penis’ over the weekend. This bizarre incident occurred during the recently-concluded 2022 Winter Olympics 50km race which took place in -17 degrees Celsius conditions in the capital city of China – Beijing.

Following this, the 24-year-old was forced to use a heat pack at the end of the race to thaw out his genitals after spending almost an hour and 16 minutes traversing the course in the howling, freezing winds at Zhangjiakou.

“You can guess which body part was a little bit frozen when I finished [the men’s Olympic 50km race],” Remi told Finnish media.  ‘It was one of the worst competitions I’ve been in. It was just about battling through.”

With organizers being worried about frostbite during Saturday’s race, it resulted in a delay by an hour and shortening the same by 20km. Notably, the thin suits and under-layers worn by the participating racers, as well as plasters to cover their faces and ears, offered little protection from the harsh conditions. However, the competitive cross-country skiers usually manage to keep warm by generating body heat as they race.

It was not immediately clear if any other skier suffered similar injuries at the Beijing 2022 race, which was Saturday’s race was delayed and then shortened by 20 km – from 50 km to 30 km – by organizers following concerns over frostbite.

Lindholm further went on to explain that he used a heat pack to try to thaw out his appendage once the race was over.
“When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable. I stuffed a heating pad on it. It helped. It took maybe 15 minutes,” he signed off.
