“Keep your head high” – Simone Biles, Lindsey Vonn rally for Mikaela Shiffrin after Winter Olympics crash

Mikaela Shiffrin
American skier Mikaela Shiffrin struggled to explain her unfortunate exit from the 2022 Beijing Olympics on Wednesday. She lasted all of five seconds before things went awry in the alpine skiing race’s first run of the two-leg slalom. This was just about half as long as Team USA’s two-time gold medalist stayed on course in Monday’s opening run.
The 26-year-old went on to admit to reporters that her performance at the 2022 Games is ‘a really big letdown.’
“It’s probably a culmination of the other day and today,” she replied when asked what she was thinking while sitting at the side of the course. “It feels like a really big let down.
The Colorado native Shiffrin stated that she knows that this is not the end of the world but there are plenty of questions in front of her right now.
“I was trying to look back and think about the last days and what I’ve been trying to do, what I’ve been doing with my skiing that would suggest that on the fifth gate I would push myself a little bit too hard to actually be able to stay in the course.
“It’s not the end of the world and it’s so stupid to care this much, but I feel I have to question a lot now. I’ve never been in this position before and I don’t know how to handle it,” she admitted.
Biles, Vonn cheer Shiffrin up

Some of the top Olympians including the likes of retired skier Lindsey Vonn, champion gymnast Simone Biles, and track star Gabby Thomas had Shiffrin’s back. They went on to rally for their country’s athlete and tweeted motivational messages.
“Gutted for @MikaelaShiffrin but this does not take away from her storied career and what she can and will accomplish going forward,” Vonn wrote. “Keep your head high.”
“You have so much to be proud of,” Thomas tweeted, adding: “Keep going.”
