Skip Bayless Blames “Mr. Taylor Swift” Travis Kelce for Chiefs’ Loss Against Eagles

Skip Bayless claimed the reason the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Eagles was because of Travis Kelce's drop in the redzone that turned into a Patrick Mahomes INT.

Travis Kelce has had a rough start to the 2025 season. His first game ended with two catches and a mistimed route that dislocated WR Xavier Worthy’s shoulder.

Kelce’s misfortunes continued in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. He caught four passes for 61 yards and could have scored a touchdown, but he dropped the ball.

Skip Bayless attributed that very mistake from Kelce as the main reason for the Chiefs losing the momentum in the tie. Here is what he had to say:

Tom Brady wouldn’t say it on the FOX telecast, but I’m going to say it right here, right now: Travis Kelce dropped the game at Arrowhead.

Was Travis Kelce the reason behind the Chiefs’ losing the game against the Eagles?

The Chiefs led a 14-play drive when down 13-10 in the fourth quarter. It was the best time to score a TD and tip the balance in their favor.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes snapped the ball from the Eagles’ six-yard line and aimed a pass at the four-time All-Pro tight end, who had 97 catches for 823 yards in 2024. However, the ball ricocheted from Kelce’s hand and ended up in rookie DB Andrew Mukuba’s possession.

The Eagles would go on to score a touchdown on the following drive, fueling Kelce’s frustration. Bayless blamed Kelce for costing the Chiefs the game.

The reason the Chiefs lost [against the Eagles] is because Travis Kelce dropped a touchdown pass at the goal line that I believe would’ve put the Chiefs in a position to win the football game. Mr. Taylor Swift.

Mahomes connected with wide receiver Tyquan Thornton three minutes from the end for a 49-yard score. It contributed little to the outcome, as the Eagles secured a 20-17 win. The result marked Mahomes’ third straight defeat (first time in his NFL career).

Bayless believes Kelce doesn’t get enough criticism since he began dating Taylor Swift. He has become untouchable despite delivering poor performances week in and week out. He added:

As much as [Patrick] Mahomes loves Travis Kelce and owes Travis Kelce for so many big completions in so many big moments and big games. The last time I saw him rise and shine was at Baltimore two playoffs ago.

Mahomes needs Kelce more than ever. He is missing two of his starting wide receivers—Xavier Worthy is injured, and Rashee Rice is suspended for six games. Mahomes later took the blame for Kelce’s dropped pass.

Kelce has been great in the past, regularly putting up 1000-yard and 10+ TD seasons, but he’s nearly 36, and asking a veteran tight end to assume the role as the lead receiver is not a sound move. Thornton, Juju Smith-Schuster, Brashard Smith, Nikko Remigio, and Jason Brownlee must contribute a significant amount to keep the Chiefs’ offense firing in future games.

The Chiefs still faced offensive struggles last year after Rice was sidelined through injury. They brought in All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins for the remainder of the year. Perhaps a similar fix could be the answer. Tyreek Hill seems unhappy at the Miami Dolphins, and rumors are floating on social media that the front office may entertain trade offers.

The Chiefs are known to bring back former players, and Hill won a ring during his time in KC. So, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if GM Brett Veach makes the trade happen. But nothing is set in stone. Fans have to stay patient until something concrete arises.
