Caitlin Clark has 42 more turnovers than the next player in the league.
Angel Reese and Skip Bayless
The hottest topic of the WNBA season has been the impact of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The two rookies have helped elevate the game to new audiences with their superstar personas and their outstanding play. Now midway through the season, the Rookie of the Year debate has become the focal point of debate. One in which Skip Bayless had an interesting take on.
The longtime analyst was talking about the Rookie of the Year debate on the show Undisputed. He revealed who his pick was and the reasoning behind it.
I would have to, at the halfway point, go with Angel over Caitlin. Caitlin Clark now has 42 more turnovers than any other player in the league. 42 more, are you kidding me? It's hard to overcome that. She is 2nd in the league in assists, but it gets cancelled out when you got 42 more turnovers than anybody else.Skip Bayless said
Skip Bayless’ point of view was that Clark is not scoring to the levels that her college performances have shown. The turnovers just add to the woes. Therefore, given how they are playing currently, he has Angel Reese as his pick for Rookie of the Year. Bayless thinks Reese has brought her spectacular work on the glass seamlessly to the WNBA. On top of that, she has improved her scoring inside the paint to help her set the new consecutive double-double record.
But Skip Bayless did say that this could all change if Caitlin Clark shoots better than the 33% she is scoring from three. In addition, if she can clean up the turnovers, the debate will take a turn.
Caitlin Clark needs her teammates help to win ROTY
The turnover point Skip Bayless made has 2 sides. One is when Caitlin Clark herself tries an audacious pass that she should not have. The 2nd is if her teammates can react better and faster to her incredible array of passes. Clark is not flashy by any means, but she reads the floor faster than any of her Indiana Fever teammates can.
Therefore, when she sends a pass downhill, her teammates are often caught off guard by the velocity of the pass or the timing. Two issues that have been a staple ever since the regular season started. Although there have been improvements, a lot of work needs to be put in to stop the bleeding. All those turnovers lead to points for the opposing team.
Not an ideal situation if the Indiana Fever want to win games and make it to the playoffs. With 4 games to go for the mid-season break, the Fever have to focus on improving their coordination. Only then can they not only help themselves to win but also help Caitlin Clark win the WNBA Rookie of the Year.
