On Friday, the Seattle Mariners took down the Detroit Tigers in an epic game. The American League West champions emerged as 3-2 winners following a walk-off win in the 15th inning. Longtime sports analyst Skip Bayless would send a congratulatory message to their fans after their win.

Game 5 of the ALDS between the Mariners and Tigers was a winner-takes-all game. The Tigers won Game 1 but then lost Games 2 and 3 on the bounce and put themselves in trouble. A 9-3 win in Game 4 enforced Game 5 in Seattle.

The hosts took an early lead through a sacrifice fly from Mitch Graver in the bottom of the 2nd inning. A two-run home run from Kerry Carpenter turned the game on its head and put the AL Central side on top.

A single from birthday boy Leo Rivas in the bottom of the 7th inning tied the game at 2-2. After that, the match turned into a battle between the two sets of pitchers.

The game stretched up to 15 innings. In the bottom of this inning, the Mariners had the bases loaded with one out when Jorge Polanco came up to bat against Tommy Kahnle. After working a 3-2 full count, the infielder hit a single in the right field to complete a walk-off win for his team.

The win sends the Mariners to their first American League Championship Series (ALCS) since 2001. It had been 24 years since they last fought for the AL pennant.

As they celebrated this win, Skip Bayless dropped a 7-word message. The veteran analyst congratulated the Mariners fans and expressed that there is feeling of this being their year.

Congrats, Mariner fans. Feels like your year.

In the 48 years of their history, the Mariners have never been through the World Series. Their previous 3 ALCS appearances have ended up in defeats.

This year, the “M’s” broke a 24-year drought of a division title. In the final stretch of the season, they took down the Houston Astros and finished the campaign with a 90-72 record, and won their first AL West title since the 116-win season in 2001.

Cal Raleigh left speechless after Mariners’ thrilling win in ALDS Game 5

Raleigh has been the star man of the Mariners this season. He broke the single-season record for the most home runs hit by a catcher this year and crossed the 50-run home run mark for the first time in his career.

The 2025 Home Run Derby champion then went on to break franchise records as he finished the year with 60 home runs, the most hit by a player in Mariners history. While he did not have much offensive success on Friday, he did stand behind the plate for all 15 innings.

After the game, the 28-year-old expressed that he was very happy for his teammates and the fans as the Mariners reached their 4th ALCS.

So many emotions right now. Just speechless. So happy for our guys. Happy for the city. Just, yeah, speechless.

Cal Raleigh told MLB Network

Raleigh, who is in contention for the AL MVP award this year, went 8-for-21 in the ALDS. He batted with a .381 average while having 1 home run and 4 RBIs.

The Mariners fans would be hoping for this form to continue. From Sunday, they will lock horns with the Toronto Blue Jays, who knocked out the Yankees in 4 games, in the best-of-seven ALCS series. The Blue Jays will have the home-field advantage in this series.
