The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came through in the last minute of the Sunday game against the New York Jets to register their third win of the season. The Bucs are among the six teams that are undefeated with only one fixture left in Week 3. Meanwhile, the Jets are yet to find their first win and belong to the category of six teams who are winless.

The Buccaneers seemed in control with a 23-6 lead early in the fourth quarter and were still ahead 26-13 when Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor hit Allen Lazard for a 4-yard touchdown with 3:40 remaining. Tampa Bay tried to put the game away with a 43-yard field goal, but Will McDonald IV leaped the line, blocked the kick, and returned it 50 yards for a stunning Jets lead, 27-26, with 1:49 to play.

That’s when Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield came through. Calm under pressure, he orchestrated a seven-play, 48-yard march that set up Chase McLaughlin’s 36-yard field goal as time expired, sealing a dramatic 29-27 Tampa Bay victory. The late antics by Mayfield haven’t gone unnoticed. After all, he had a personal vengeance to accomplish yesterday.

In light of the two consecutive late comebacks, analyst Skip Bayless reflected on his original thoughts on Mayfield before his draft. Bayless brought back the claim of how he had declared that Mayfield would be selected first overall and would live up to that. However, the first few years of Mayfield’s career were rocky as he hopped from Cleveland to Carolina, a phase when everyone called him a bust.

Mayfield’s arrival in Tampa to replace Tom Brady had changed all the bad opinions about him as he has led the Bucs to consecutive playoffs. Bayless reveled in the correctness of his former claim and continued to praise Mayfield and his ability to be the clutch personality.

He’s a competitor at his highest abrasive level. You hate him if you are on the other team. You love him if you are in his locker room and here he comes again… Baker Mayfield is clutch.

Baker Mayfield was played dirty by Kevin Stefanski according to Skip Bayless

A few days after Tampa Bay’s scintillating last-quarter win over the Atlanta Falcons, Skip Bayless had made another striking claim in relation to Baker Mayfield. Bayless, who has long believed in Mayfield, pointed his finger towards Kevin Stefanski, the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

In his debut season with the Browns, Mayfield and Stefanski won 11 games in the season, a feat the franchise had never achieved since 1994. That season had given hope to many desperate Browns fans. However, all the positive went down from there as Mayfield’s career took a tumble and crashed. Bayless feels that Stefanski was responsible for that, calling him a blame deflector who played dirty with Mayfield in a previous episode on his show.

He kept dissing him to the media. Stefanski, he comes off like he’s a really solid guy. I don’t think he’s a really solid guy. He’s a blame deflector, a finger pointer, a kiss (expletive) to the owner… He played dirty with Baker Mayfield… It got ugly between Stefanski and Baker. Somehow, Stefanski won that.

Skip Bayless added

Stefanski, two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year, is faced with yet another situation where he’s dilly-dallying with a packed quarterback room that includes two rookies. While Dillon Gabriel is getting a few snaps, Shedeur Sanders is ignored. However, the Browns’ problem is bigger than Gabriel or Sanders or even the veteran starter Joe Flacco. They’ll need patience and resilience to win this battle. But until then, Mayfield will prevail.
