Skip Bayless has built a reputation over the years of being someone who goes to any lengths to make a point. When someone argues with it, he comes back even stronger with points that may feel bizarre to many. The analyst now has something concerning Travis Hunter.

Over the course of the draft and the first few games of the season, Bayless has been livid about the lack of meaningful snaps the Jacksonville Jaguars have deployed the 2-way star.

He believes Hunter is immensely capable, particularly on the defensive side, even going to the extent of placing him in the same category as Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman.

Even though the Jaguars have steadily increased their 2nd overall pick’s snaps on both sides of the ball, Skip Bayless is not happy. But what really ticked him off was Hunter’s recent pre-game baptism.

Allow me to tell you why there was no way Travis Hunter should have chosen to be baptized on the morning of a 1 o’clock game in Jacksonville… Travis Hunter is starting to lose interest. He’s starting to check out mentally on the Jags, so he was actually happy to be baptized on a gameday morning. Because football isn’t taking that much concentration, or focus, or pre-game mental preparation. Nope, not now.

Fans fume at Skip Bayless for bizarre Travis Hunter take

Skip Bayless went on to clarify that he grew up a Christian, but now does not associate with the faith publicly, owing to how it has been politicized over the past several months.

However, that clarity seemed as well as his opinion on Travis Hunter’s decision to get baptized infuriated people on social media. They feel that the analyst unnecessarily used a personal decision, which was also related to religion, and merged it with football.

They believe the two can coexist in the same space. To make religion the reason for his supposed lack of interest in the game was as bizarre a take as it could get.

The ceremony took place in a church in Jacksonville, Florida. When asked why he decided to get baptized moments before the game, the 22-year-old replied.

It’s a crazy question. Why did I get baptized? It’s Sunday, it’s God’s day, and I’ve been planning to get baptized for a minute. I want to change my life, I want to become a better man. It means a lot, you know, becoming a better man, leaving my old flesh, and just becoming the new Travis.

Travis Hunter told reporters after the game

Hunter and his teammates went on to lose that game 20-12, with the 2-way star recording not-so-great stats on both sides of the ball. Maybe that is why Skip Bayless felt his baptism impacted his game.
