Even after all this time, Skip Bayless isn’t ready to give the Denver Broncos their due credit. The Broncos are part of the reason behind his Dallas Cowboys’ 6-7-1 record and stand a 1% chance of playoff qualification.

Of course, the Cowboys have themselves to blame for losing games against the 3-11 Cardinals and the 6-8 Vikings. The Broncos, on the other hand, have played solid football. They lead both their conference and the AFC with a 12-2 record.

In their last game, the Broncos defeated a strong Green Bay Packers team 34-26. Quarterback Bo Nix threw four touchdowns while the defense forced two turnovers and three sacks from Packers QB Jordan Love.

Despite a fine display of well-rounded performance from the Broncos, they failed to please Skip Bayless. The veteran sports analyst completely undermined the Broncos. He believes that the schedule has helped Sean Payton’s team go on a ten-game win streak.

The Broncos are 12-2 against the 5th easiest schedule. You’ve won 10 1-score games. Barely, barely, barely.

Skip Bayless said on a recent segment of The Arena Gridiron show

Sure, the Broncos have had several one score wins, even against teams with two or three wins all year. However, that shouldn’t undermine the success they have had in 2025. Whether it was an easy schedule or not, they still needed to win to be in the position they are in right now. So, it makes zero sense to criticize their record when a team like the Kansas City Chiefs won twelve one score games en route to their 2024 Super Bowl appearance.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton eyes a historic record

Sean Payton is already one of the most accomplished head coaches in the history of the sport. He stands on the precipice of creating history if the Broncos beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Payton will join former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick as the only head coaches in NFL history with at least five 13-win seasons. Payton is also one of three coaches since 1950 to lead a team to 10+ wins and a playoff berth in each of a quarterback’s (Bo Nix) first two years.

These records are a testament to Payton’s knowledge about football. For the longest time, he was viewed as a coach coattails on the success of Drew Brees. Of course, Brees was a phenom during his playing days, and Payton’s only Super Bowl ring came when he coached the Saints legend. If that was the case, then his philosophy wouldn’t have worked in Denver, let alone with a fledgling quarterback.

Payton took drastic steps after landing in Mile High ahead of the 2022 NFL season. He sent Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson packing and intentionally absorbed a sizeable dead cap left by Wilson’s contract. He picked Nix as the Broncos’ next quarterback and turned the program around in just two years.

Nix has his flaws, but he has shown glimpses of improvement in the last couple of games. Moreover, the Broncos’ defense is one of the best defenses in the league. In fact, the Broncos lead the league in sacks with 58 in 14 games.

Their next opponents are the 10-4 Jaguars, a team that boasts the top redzone offense. A win would help the Broncos take one step closer to the AFC number one seed.
