Skip Bayless wants Darvin Ham fired after the Lakers’ humiliating playoff loss to Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets for the second straight time
The Lakers have now lost to the Nuggets in the playoffs in back-to-back years.
Skip Bayless and Darvin Ham
With the Lakers going home after a five-game series against the Nuggets, there have been multiple fingers pointed at the franchise. Darvin Ham has been called out by many for his rotations during the playoffs. Not only that but also the frustration among the players regarding the coaching style was visible during the last contests.
Skip Bayless believes that the Lakers should consider firing Darvin Ham. The Lakers hired Ham after they had parted ways with their previous head coach, Frank Vogel. Not only that, but Ham is the third head coach in charge after LeBron James arrived in LA. Though as of now, as the Lakers look to the upcoming offseason, they can first look to deal with their coaching staff.
It feels like Darvin has to go. Because that's the one piece to the puzzle that is so utterly replaceable so quickly. You can just do it without any cap problems. And yet I still think he did a good enough job to keep his job. Because I'll say it again, against Denver, they're right there in every game, and I give him some credit for that.Skip Bayless on Undisputed
While Ham didn’t do a great job in the postseason, the Lakers roster wasn’t structured as well to go up against the reigning champs. Looking at how things played out for the Lakers, the squad was lacking a consistent shooter as well as backup scorers. Going into the offseason, the Lakers will look to add depth to their squad.
Darvin Ham is unlikely to return to the Lakers
According to recent reports, Darvin Ham is unlikely to return next season. While the Lakers will be making changes to the roster, they’ll also be in search of a new head coach. However, these factors will play a major role in keeping James in LA. LeBron James can look to exercise his player option this year, though if the Lakers can add a few assets as well as a trusted coach, James will consider another run with the Lakers.
The Lakers were pretty close to winning games this series, however, they couldn’t seem to finish when it mattered the most. Since their championship run, the Lakers have missed two playoffs. Not only that, but the franchise has added multiple All-Stars in the past. Though none of the assembled roster was better than the 2020 championship squad.
It will be interesting to see what changes the Lakers bring this offseason. Until then, James will have the chance to either leave or stay with the Lakers. Los Angeles has a first and second-round pick in this year’s draft. The front office will be keeping an eye on possible assets in the future.
