Angel Reese and her Chicago Sky are facing adversity as they stand 3rd from bottom with a 2-6 record. They hoped this would be the season the franchise returns to the playoffs, but so far, their form and style of play have not given any indication of that.

There have been several blowouts, which place the Sky 2nd to last in point difference, and they also allow the most points in the league. That is how bad their defense has been, and if not for their two wins against the bottom-ranked Dallas Wings, the team would have the worst record in the league.

Angel Reese also had some embarrassing single-digit scoring games. However, even when she is notching double-doubles, the team is not necessarily winning. However, the team needs their star forward to start converting those performances into wins.

That’s something that has yet to come together, but it’s a necessity for us to win. She’s had some great games, and she’s had some games like everybody else that haven’t been her best. But she’s our best chance at versatility on this roster. We need more production out of her, but we need her to help us in other ways, too.

That was Chicago Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca, who acknowledged to the Chicago Sun-Times that they want to continue pushing Angel Reese to expand her game. Unlike last season, they do not want her just to stand under the basket and grab rebounds and score. They want her to do more.

Sky expects Angel Reese to help in various ways

The Chicago Sky hired Tyler Marsh with the hope that he would help develop both Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso into star post players. Marsh’s vision is yet to bear fruit, but the team wants to continue building along that path, as Pagliocca reiterated.

She’s been putting the time in. She’s been a great teammate. She knows we need to use her in a variety of ways. We’re still trying to pinpoint the most advantageous part of that.

This means they want to see more of the point-forward role their 23-year-old star forward has been working on lately. She is trying to score from various points on the floor, and is even bringing the ball up the court, a role she has never played in her basketball career.

Now that starting veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot is done for the season, they might resort more and more to Angel Reese bringing up the ball. Even if they continue losing, as long as the plan starts to materialize, the franchise believes it will result in wins down the road.

Angel Reese believes her work is going to translate

Angel Reese knows the Chicago Sky are expecting her to take a role that she will take time to develop. They want her to be the focal part of their offense as well as defense. Even if the current results are not encouraging, the LSU alum believes her work will bear fruit.

I put my head down and work every single day — I don’t give up on anything…I critique myself the most. I know it’s going to translate…I’m just going to put my head down and work, and I know the results will show.

Angel Reese said

The 23-year-old believes in the plan her coaches have in place. As she continues to work on her game and her teammates start to get accustomed to it, Reese believes the wins will start coming. The Sky have an opportunity to start winning in the next few games as they take on weak teams.
