Sky HC Teresa Weatherspoon baffled by Angel Reese EJECTION, says she has not received explanation

Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon is baffled by Angel Reese's ejection, has not yet received explanation from officials

Angel Reese was ejected for the 1st time in her WNBA career in the game against the New York Liberty today. From the visuals, it is apparent that as she was called for a foul she said something to the referee that brought her the 1st technical foul.

Then the referee called a 2nd technical foul and ejected Reese after she waved him off. Her Chicago Sky head coach, Teresa Weatherspoon is still not sure what caused the ejection.

I tried to get an explanation, I did not. I don't know to this moment what has happened.

Usually, coaches get an explanation of what transpired and forced the referee to issue those technical fouls and eject Reese. However, it could also be that she may not be willing to reveal what happened between Angel Reese and the referee. Possibly Reese said something to the referee that led to those calls. Maybe Teresa Weatherspoon knows all too well that revealing it may have a detrimental effect on Reese and her team.

Generally, officials have to give reasoning behind strong calls. Therefore, it is not normal for Weatherspoon to not get an explanation. Her Chicago Sky has come under increasing scrutiny in the last few days after her player Chennedy Carter bodied Caitlin Clark in the game. More importantly, Angel Reese has come under fire for applauding that cheap shot.

Angel Reese and her Chicago Sky team will get better

Suggesting that she has also helped the WNBA grow in stature is a major claim. But she and her team will have to prove through their play that she is right. Angel Reese is in a unique position compared to the other rookies in her class. She has a team of solid young players and a WNBA legend and basketball savant in Weatherspoon as her coach.

Reese has 3rd overall pick and fellow NCAA Champion, Kamilla Cardoso just easing back into the lineup. The oldest player of this core is leading scorer Marina Mabrey at 27. This sets them up to gel and grow together as they come to learn under coach Weatherspoon. The more they play, the better they will be.

Something that will bode well in the times to come as the Chicago Sky looks to return to the top of the WNBA. If as coach Weatherspoon suggested, her players know how to control aggression. Moreover, Angel Reese and her teammates could be competitive enough to fight for a championship in a few years.
