Anthony Edwards has emerged as one of the NBA’s most electrifying talents, entering his sixth season with the Timberwolves amid growing calls to crown him the league’s next face. Yet, despite his all-around game, one weakness remains, playmaking.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin noted on NBA on ESPN that Edwards is working on that very skill, and if he masters it, he could become unstoppable.

He’s trying to add the playmaking piece to the offensive repertoire. If he gets that, I mean, the sky is the limit.

Dave McMenamin said

The ESPN reporter stressed that he had a conversation with Edwards’ coach Chris Hines during last season’s NBA playoffs. McMenamin claimed that Hines has been putting in the work behind the scenes on Edwards to teach him and nurture him into the small details of his game. He has been showing the guard clips of legendary players like Michael Jordan and the late Kobe Bryant.

Hines knows that the Timberwolves star is talented, but he needs to up his game, especially in the playmaking sector, something that has been lacking over the last few years. One could also put this in terms of the Timberwolves’ performances over the last two years. During the 2023-24 NBA season, the Timberwolves were knocked out by the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic in the WCF finals.

Last season, Edwards got his side once again to the Western Conference finals, but lost at the hands of the eventual NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Anthony Edwards hyped up the Timberwolves’ fanbase with his latest social media post

Last season, Anthony Edwards averaged 27.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 79 games. So one thing is sure: with each year, Edwards’ numbers seem to be rising in the league, showcasing signs of improvement. Interestingly, Ant is putting in the work during this offseason and also took to his socials to make his feelings clear.

The vast majority of comments this time focused on the athletes’ excitement for the 2025–2026 season, except for the irregular trolls that always appear in his comment section by fans. The Timberwolves star is one to keep an eye out for going into the 2025-26 NBA season.

NBA analyst predicted a dire future regarding Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves

Many believed a superstar had arrived when Anthony Edwards sent well-liked teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors home during the 2025 playoffs. Unfortunately, this idea was short-lived due to the consecutive WCF exits. Because of this, NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins thinks Ant-Man could want to leave Minnesota.

If Anthony Edwards don’t reach the NBA Finals, he’s going to request a trade from Minnesota…$45M is not really at the top of the top, Bradley Beal is making $52M.

Kendrick Perkins said on ESPN last month

Perkins does have a point here, not only because of his team’s performances in the past seasons, but also due to the contract factor. Edwards is currently earning $48 million a year on average, with four years left on his contract. With his current terms, many teams and suitors would be interested in snapping up Edwards in the coming season, should he choose to leave Minnesota.
