Indian women’s cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana’s wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal has been postponed, after the cricketer’s father suffered serious health complications. Srinivas Mandhana was rushed to the hospital, for symptoms of a cardiac arrest.

Weeks after winning the 2025 Women’s World Cup with India, Smriti Mandhana was all set to step into a new phase in her life. She was expected to tie the knot with long-time partner and Bollywood music composer Palash Muchhal, in a private wedding ceremony in her home town of Sangli, Maharashtra. Only members of the families of the bride and groom and close friends would be in attendance.

Wedding celebrations having begun almost a week ago; pictures of which went viral on social media. At her haldi ceremony earlier this week, the 29-year-old was also captured dancing with her India Women teammates, including Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh, and several others. All of them wore bright yellow attires, perfectly embracing the mood of the wedding celebrations.

However, the festive spirit came to a halt, after Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana’s health deteriorated, on the day of her daughter’s wedding. He collapsed after complaining of pain on the left side of his chest at around 01:00 pm while having breakfast, as a result of which he had to be rushed to Sangli’s Sarvhit Hospital in an ambulance. She later decided against going ahead with the wedding, given the close bond that she shares with her father, who has been a constant source of support.

The Mandhana family doctor, Dr. Naman Shah, who is also the director of Sarvhit Hospital, confirmed that Srinivas is currently under observation, while noting that the collapse was likely caused by the physical and mental strain of the hectic wedding preparations. Shah added that Srinivas Mandhana’s cardiac enzymes and blood pressure rose, and he might require continuous ECG monitoring and an angiography, if necessary.

Currently, his [Srinivas Mandhana] blood pressure is slightly elevated, so he needs continuous monitoring…It could be due to physical or mental stress, perhaps because it is wedding season with a lot of hectic activity.

Smriti Mandhana’s manager Tuhin Mishra shared more details, exclaiming that the wedding has been postponed indefinitely until the cricketer’s father recovers fully. Mishra also urged the media to provide the Mandhana family with some personal space, at a time of such unwanted tragedy.
