Snubbing AD and KD, Steve Kerr names Joel Embiid part of Team USA’s ‘Big 3’
Joel Embiid became a citizen of the United States only in September 2022.
Steve Kerr and Joel Embiid
Team USA’s preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics is looking good as they beat Serbia 105-79 in an exhibition match. Notably, Team USA’s head coach Steve Kerr made a bold assessment regarding their squad recently. Kerr claimed that he has enjoyed starting LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Joel Embiid together and asserts that fans could see more of them.
However, this leaves out big names such as Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis as starters in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. Nobody will be surprised if James and Curry start because they are still very productive players and by far the biggest names on the team. However, Emibiid’s inclusion in the USA squad as a starter would be debatable for some.
Yeah, I like those three guys in the starting lineup. We've been looking at other guys around them and we obviously do have great options, but I like those three guys together.Steve Kerr told Fadeaway World
It’s important to note that it’s still early to predict the proper starting lineup for the main matchups in the Olympics.
On the contrary, Curry led the team in scoring with 24 points in a game against Serbia, and James has served as the ideal facilitator on the floor, filling in when needed and making sure all of his teammates feel comfortable while attacking. It will be intriguing to watch how Team USA and their star players fair in the decorated event.
Steve Kerr shares an important update on “benching” Joel Embiid
With the 2024 Paris Olympics on the horizon, which player will start for the USA basketball team is the most talked about in the nation currently. However, their head coach Steve Kerr shared an important update regarding a few stars, starting with Joel Embiid. Kerr claimed that he is experimenting and may figure out the best combinations for the USA side if Embiid does not fit in his plans.
These next few games, I'm going to continue experimenting with the lineup. Joel is getting better and better everyday... I love Joel, he's a dominant player. I think it's going to be important for us to figure out the best combinations.Steve Kerr added
Also, before fouling out in the third quarter, Embiid finished with just five points and six rebounds in 12 minutes during his poor performance in his Team USA debut against Canada. But against Australia, he performed much better, recording 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals. It remains to be seen what happens with Embiid’s position on Team USA in the coming days.
