Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce was already one of the best players in the league. His fame was synonymous with his success on the pitch. However, since the start of last season, his fame jumped out of the arena and made him famous across the globe.
That ever-increasing fame led analyst Nick Wright to suggest that Kelce will become the most famous football player ever, over Tom Brady and OJ Simpson after he retires. While speaking on First Things First, Wright explained his logic.
I think Travis Kelce, it's on the board. Because, as long the Chiefs are playing in the biggest television show every single year. And he is dating or married to or whatever to the most famous person alive. I think he has a chance to become the most famous football player ever. He's already on the Mount Rushmore of football famous. I think there is no question that right now, more people walking around know who Travis Kelce is than any current football players other than Brady and Mahomes.Nick Wright said
In between this analogy, his co-panelists suggested Tom Brady and OJ Simpson as being more famous than Kelce. But Wright added Kelce is on course to be more famous than them.
His logic bears some reasoning. After all, his popularity spiked once rumors of his relationship with Taylor Swift started to come out. Then as the season progressed, and they were seen together in public, more and more non-football fans started to know his name.
Therefore, if the Chiefs continue to reach Super Bowls, it means the most viewed television program each year will most probably have multiple Grammy-winning musical artists in that too. Evidently, boosting Kelce’s fame far beyond those that Tom Brady and OJ Simpson have ever had.
Travis Kelce has two more Super Bowls in his sights after contract extension
After signing a record-breaking 2-year contract extension, Travis Kelce is on course to play in the NFL at least until the end of the 2025 season. That gives the now 34-year-old two more shots at lifting the Vince Lombardi trophy again. With the way the Kansas City Chiefs have improved their roster, it seems the team is doing everything in their power to ensure that they can try and clinch the first-ever three-peat.
Which is why it was a no-brainer for Kelce to sign this deal. He gets a chance to at least match the most number of Super Bowls for a tight end in history. He also gets to go down in history as the undisputed greatest tight end of all time.
By the time this new extension expires, the 6′ 5″ Ohio native will be 36. A time when he could say goodbye to the NFL as the most famous football player ever.
