‘I have decided to part ways with my father as my coach’: Sofia Kenin

Sofia Kenin the twenty-two year old American tennis player was born in Moscow, and at a very young age moved to America with her parents. Her father Alex and mother Lena had moved from Moscow to New York City a few years before that. Alex had taken English classes and had gone to computer school during the day and drove for a car service at night. Just before their daughter was born, the family had returned to Russia. Later, Alex, Lena and Sofia returned back to New York and eventually settled in Florida, where Sofia Kenin still lives.
Sofia had turned pro at the age of fourteen in 2013. She has won five WTA titles till date which includes a Australian Open title in 2020. She was also the French Open runners up in 2020. Recently Sofia Kenin has experienced a slump in form which has coincided with an appendix surgery. She will next be seen on court at the Rome Masters.
Sofia Kenin parts ways with father/coach Alex Kenin
In a statement issued on Instagram, Sofia Kenin, the world No.4, has announced that she has split from her long term coach Alex Kenin. Mr. Kenin is also the her father. Their photo together after Sofia Kenin won the Australian Open in 2020 had made headlines around the World.
Sofia Kenin said, “Hi everyone, I wanted to let everyone know that after many years together I have decided to part ways with my father as my coach. This was not an easy decision for me as we shared many great moments together and had a lot of success.”
She continued, ”I will be forever grateful for my dad’s sacrifice and contributions towards getting me to where I am today. I am excited for what the future holds and look forward to putting together a new technical team in the coming weeks ahead. I can’t wait to get back on the court next week in Rome:).”
