After almost a 10-month hiatus, Sonya Deville finally made her return on last night’s edition of Raw. The former Tag Team Champion was absent from television due to an ACL injury. Deville appeared in a backstage segment, offering advice to the duo of Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. However, the Queen of Spades declined the offer, despite Stark seemingly being open to talking with her.
Deville had suffered the unfortunate injury in a tag team match on the July 28th episode of SmackDown last year. Moreover, The Jersey Devil had won the titles alongside Chelsea Green eleven days prior to the bout. The 30-year-old star took a break to recover from her injury while Green searched for a new tag team partner.
After a while, she found Piper Niven who replaced Sonya Deville as one-half of the Tag Team Champions. Due to their history, fans found it surprising that the returning star seemingly signed with Raw. Many believed that she would appear on SmackDown once she came back, as The Hot Mess was recently drafted to the blue brand.
As for her interaction with Stark and Baszler, it will be interesting to see in what direction the storyline goes. Judging from the segment, Deville seemingly wants to transition into the role of manager. Interestingly, Stark and Baszler became the #1 contenders for the tag team titles on Raw, by emerging victorious in a fatal-four way match.
What else transpired on the latest edition of Raw?
In the opening match of the night, Chad Gable defeated Sami Zayn in a non-title contest. Otis attacked the latter to help Gable pick up the win. Speaking of the Alpha Academy leader, he had an interesting backstage segment with The Creed Brothers.
Meanwhile, The Awesome Truth retained their titles against The Judgment Day, who were ambushed by Braun Strowman. Ahead of this weekend’s PLE, Lyra Valkyria booked her spot in the Queen of the Ring finals. In the main event, Gunther made Jey Uso pass out and advanced to the King of the Ring finals.
Furthermore, Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan confronted each other days before their Women’s World title match. Bron Breakker wrecked havoc on Raw, taking out his frustration on a local talent. Later, he speared Ricochet backstage, causing problems for Adam Pearce throughout the night.
