There is buzz in the air about the uncertain futures of two of India’s greatest white ball players. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have to the disappointment of their fans retired from T20I and Test cricket. However, the one format they still are a part of in Indian colors is the One Day Internationals.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have dominated the one-day game for over a decade and are considered two of the best of the format. Sharma holds the record of scoring three separate double centuries and plays an attacking brand of cricket. On the other hand, Kohli has a record 51 ODI centuries remarkably.

Despite of such great records, the iconic duo is not certain of their spots in the upcoming 2027 ODI cricket World Cup. Many believed that this will be a fitting end to two absolute torchbearers of Indian cricket.

There has been news circulating around that both players will have to consistently perform and also play domestic List A tournaments such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy to push for their spot in the World Cup team. There is a rumor that both players aren’t in the future plans of the ODI team. On this, former India captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed his opinion and has commented on the future of both players.

Virat Kohli’s One day record is phenomenal, and Rohit Sharma’s as well. Both of them are phenomenal in white ball cricket. And whoever does well will play. If they do well, they should continue in ODI Cricket.

Ganguly too acknowledged the phenomenal records both batters hold in the format. He was very clear about how he thought the team should structure. According to him, any player who did well should stay a part of the team. He mentioned that if Kohli and Sharma continue to excel in the format, they should not stop playing the ODI format.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been white ball giants for more than a decade now. Their consistent performances in the format make them an automatic choice for any ODI XI. Sharma has scored a remarkable 11,168 runs at an impressive average of 48.77. The opening batter has hit 32 ODI hundreds and 58 fifties. Sharma also holds the record of scoring 264 runs in one innings, which still remains the highest ODI score. He achieved this against Sri Lanka back in 2014. The explosive batter has also hit a record 344 sixes in the format, making him the highest six hitter in the history of ODI cricket.

Virat Kohli too has a plethora of achievements to his name. Kohli has scored a mammoth 14,181 runs in the format at a more than impressive average of 57.88. The batter has a record 51 hundreds in the format. He has backed it up with 74 fifties as well. Kohli’s highest score in the format is 183, which he achieved against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup. That knock, in many ways, made him unstoppable in the format.

Both batters have contributed immensely to the format, and it will be difficult for the viewers to see them exit without playing another World Cup. It is interesting to see how both Kohli and Sharma respond to the claims going around.
