Spanish police have arrested four individuals over accusations of running a hate campaign against Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. The four people have been identified as Atletico Madrid fans, who promoted the campaign on social media, insulting the forward.
The four unnamed individuals were arrested following complaints by the La Liga authorities after the Madrid derby on September 29, this year. The match was a much-heated one, with Real Madrid being held to a 1-1 draw by their city-rivals Atletico Madrid.
Prior to the match, the four convicts had reportedly urged Atletico fans to travel to the Metropolitano stadium in masks, and utter racist chants aimed at Vinicius Jr. They had aimed to do so with the aim of verbally abusing the Brazilian, without being identified.
The 24-year-old forward has often been a target of racial abuse from fans in the Spanish league, primarily Atletico Madrid fans. A year ago, several Colchoneros fans had been arrested for hanging an effigy insulting the Brazilian starlet from a bridge in the Spanish capital city after a Madrid derby.
In two other separate incidents, Valencia and Mallorca fans were sentenced to almost a year in prison over charges of racist abuse, aimed at Vinicius Jr. and former Villarreal forward Samuel Chukwueze.

These incidents have raised doubts over the sanctity of football as a sport as well as the safety of players from fans’ abuse in the much-popular Spanish league. Vinicius Jr., in a recent interview, also went on to urge FIFA to relocate the 2023 World Cup from Spain.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti backs club forward Vinicius Jr. to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or
Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti heaped praises on club forward Vinicus Jr., after his spectacular display during the team’s comeback against Borussia Dortmund. The Brazilian starlet scored a brilliant hat-trick during a 5-2 win in a challenging UCL encounter.

The Italian manager backed the 24-year-old forward to win the Ballon d’Or for the year, terming him ‘extraordinary’. Speaking at a press conference, Ancelotti expressed that he had rarely seen a player shine so well in the second half of a match as Vini. He confidently stated that the forward would win the award for his performances last year and could be counted as a front-runner next year as well.
I think he’s going to win the Ballon d’Or for what he did last year, helping us win the Champions League, not for today’s three goals, which will count towards next year’s Ballon d’Or.
